I have just had an email from Twitter about potential people to follow. One suggestion was Sussex police, with 57576 followers and they are following a mere 881. Are they all the local criminals online? It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Now there's a landscape with more than its fair share of Wow! factor. Beautiful - but a tad on the chilly side, for those of us 400-odd miles further south. I can see why you think we're too crowded down here. Having grown up on the edge of Dartmoor, several hundred yards from the next nearest house, I'd love it (if I could hack the cold - I've lived in Scotland for 3 years) but like Mojoworking's OH, mine would absolutely hate it - as far as he's concerned, rural areas anywhere are crawling with axe murderers, gangs of vicious thieves & nutcases, and you're a long way from help if you need it.
Oddly, though, most of the nasty crimes round here occur in the built-up, run-down area that's most like an inner-city elsewhere...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Now Mardatha that hasn't done my yearning for a Scotland visit any good, especially as our plans to visit in a couple of weeks have now changed! Beautiful.
Have you always lived as secluded as you are now?0 -
I like it here but it is cold. No fuddle pet, I grew up in the country but my first house when I got married was a tower block in Edinburgh. I hated it every minute for 12 years lol0

Oh oh oh - snowdrops! Didn't have my camera with me, but the island on the river (down by the Tip, for Fuddle) is covered with wild snowdrops in bloom! Spring really is just around the corner! :jAngie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

We've got 3 snowdrops up on the front lawn under the birch tree, best thing today was finding celandines wide open like little yellow suns on a bank in the lanes that catches the warmth and sunshine, so pretty and also seeing wild Speedwell all along one of the footpaths like little blue eyes when I walked that hound with Charlie the retriever and his mum this afternoon.0

Love the photos Mar, thanks for sharing. I've stayed in more isolated parts of the world but I guess you are about as isolated as it gets on mainland UK.0

My sister in her mid 70s and thin as a bird, had a fall recently. She had the presence of mind NOT to put her hands out as she fell. She hit her chin instead - although she held her head back, the impact jerked it forward. She was a positive rainbow of bruises for about a week - but no broken wristIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I was very prone to falls in my teens/twenties due to mild hypermobility and back issues. I was taught to protect myself when falling by curling into a ball as I fell (I was also taught to use my arms to correct balance... but if that failed, then to work with the fall). I'm sure anyone who has done martial arts or self-defence will have similar techniques they can use in these situations.0
