I'd been wondering where you were, the original and non-perplexed pineapple.

I'm watching the news and it fills me with sadness and despair. To think that fellow humans can treat each other like this is beyond belief.
My thoughts are with anyone caught up in such atrocities.0 -
Mar, I'm so glad you're safe, but what a horrendous post you copied from the weather forum! Puts things in perspective, it really does.
And yes, as I'm stuck either in bed or in my armchair being ill, I've been following updates from France on my kindle ... horrendous, really horrendous. Those poor people caught up in the violence and insanity.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I have been glued to sky news most of the day..
my thoughts and emotions are with the French people who are, and who are not involved with this. as no one knows whats going to happen

Afternoon all. Just dropping by to say Happy New Year and to say hope everyone is paying attention to what is happening in France right now.
If I was a betting person I would put money on more of this coming to the UK as well.
Not good news indeed and it wouldn't surprise me.
"Blimmin' cheek...who the f&ck do they think they are to try shooting us down like that?:mad:" probably counts as about the mildest of my thoughts when I read that. Those poor people...who were only exercising our right to freedom of speech:mad:0 -
Just read the paper and apparently the flu strain here is not the original H3N2 virus but a mutation of that which is AH3N2 and is causing problems with people who have cardio problems or suffer from asthma and other breathing problems. The local general hospitals respiratory ward is chocka block full and about half of all reported flu cases in the area are from this variant virus and they are saying because it's a variant that the flu jab this year will be of no use in fighting it off.0

I am appalled at what has happened as well. What annoyed me was why the BBC were detailing operational details in their reports. These sorts of things only aid the terrorists next time around, like how they were cutting off the communications in the area. Personally I have no need to know how the French police stopped these acts of terrorism. If there are any problems with how it was done that can all be worked out in a low key enquiry afterwards.
Je Suis CharlieIt's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
The issue with the current terrorist acts is that in many cases it's very few people acting alone and doing it relatively cheaply. But then again, there have always been nutters out there and we can't live our lives trying to avoid them.
My first job out of uni was for a newspaper. The reception staff had to deal with a chap who threw an a-board through the front plate glass window at them, we had bomb threats, the editorial staff had death threats. And this was at a small local newspaper, where news seldom was controversial. They put a lock on the door with a key code from reception to the rest of the building, then when that got troublesome everyone got electronic tags to let themselves in. Nothing there either to stop someone grabbing a member of staff and using them for entry though.
As regards flu, my previous GP here said that handwashing was always going to be a great preventative. Long enough to sing "happy birthday" twice. It's not so much who sneezes or coughs on you, but more what you touch after they do. If you're out and about, avoid touching your face, wash your hands when you get home. The last time I had flu I got pneumonia too, not a thrill.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
