Another fresh air person here. Now that it's been mentioned I wonder if it is to do with as a baby I was outside to sleep most days I think, and out for a 'push around'.

Windows always open even if just a bit, if i'm in the house back door always open all day and evening untll bed, usually every day in winter too.

I have no clue why as wasn't brought up with it, but I used to hang my duvet out the window once a week when in the flat...I seem to not be doing this now i've moved for some reason..??...must start doing this again. Maybe it's the laziness of having to drag it downstairs in new place otherwise asbo-cat would be on the roof here.

I love the air sea air here too, gives you a proper 'blast'. The waves on the beach last two days have been amazing, lots of boarders and surfers out.......may go and buy a wet suit.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

My neighbours all air their bed linen and duvets on the window sills. I live in a Greek mountain village and the variety of colours and designs make it look quite festive ! They are pretty good at judging the weather and getting it in before the rain starts or the wind gets up.It is very humid here all the year round and if you did not air it in the winter it would feel really damp and nasty. We leave the electric blanket on the lowest setting from November to April to keep the bed aired.

Amazing video of one of the many waterspouts in Italy today, it later made land fall as a tornado which damaged cars and buildings. At one point there were six waterspouts all at the same time just off Genova.

I have been reading about the Icelandic volcano they are all worrying about. The warning level has been raised ,as there are many earth quakes around it and worries of the ash affecting flights in the UK and Europe. I do hope this just dies down as the ash was so disruptive last time. I could not make it back to the UK for my father's funeral last time there was a problem with volcanic ash.

We have the start of a heatwave again tomorrow, hoping this one will be short lived....

Watching the volcano myself as sister and new BIL are on honeymoon in Europe for another week. Hope they can get back, mind you at least in Europe you have a chance of land and sea travel to get back fairly easily.

Having a SHTF moment here, DH has phoned to say DS hasn't got what he needed GCSE wise to get on the course he wanted at college.

He is in college now to see if they can get him on the course or simular so he has somewhere to start in September

Sorry to hear that, Alibobsy, but I know colleges often have spare places on courses so I am sure he'll be fine.

The risk of an eruption is low, but if it did happen would many of us actually be impacted significantly? It might be an inconvenience to those on holiday trying to get back home but unless your diet is based on food items permanently out of season and so flown in from around the world most people will not be impacted. If it involved a serious amount of ash to block the sky for years then food stocks will be essential.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Hi all :) re: flu jabs Every winter since about the age of 40 (I am 60 now) I got flu and also a chest infection.( I have never smoked either) and always looked after my health as best I could. Since being invited for the flu jab by my G.P I have only had flu once and one chest infection, and I will always go and get it when my letter comes. I am also very careful about handwashing and while outdoors in public places I am aware of germs, and touching door handles etc.
It is quite cold here today rain earlier, but definitely a real change in the temperature. New double duvet coming in the morning from Dunel* M*** and pleased as we got a good deal on it. Plenty of wool in my stash for the knitting and extra throws in bedding box plus our electric blanket which was put away at the beginning of the warmer weather. Plenty of food in and good stores in cupboards, paracetamol, cough mixture etc as well. My dh 's job may be coming to an end and he had applied for another one which he has heard two days ago he is in the 30 they choose out of 300 applicants. Hopefully he is successful, as at age 62 signing on for job seekers would be horrible for someone who has worked since he was 15 years of age. Keeping positive though as we feel blessed with what we have and we have each other too. So sorry to read about sad times some of you are going through. I send you warmest wishes, and I know there are lots of lovely people on here with support and hugs to go around you all. It is such a lovely wee community on here and I have often been so glad of the support I have had when we were going through a tough time a while back. God bless you all on here. Margaret xx

Ash is very detrimental to the health, particularly the lungs. It would cause health problems for many people if it was in the air for any amount of time, even weeks. The current jet stream would carry it directly over the UK and keep it coming in that direction. The eruption risk is not as low as you think and authorities there are evacuating people. They must think the risk is significant to do that. It certainly impacted me last time it happened, it meant I could not get back to the UK to my father's funeral. Many people depend on travel for business and for carrying many things to other countries. Most food is carried by road and sea when it is imported.
