But Europe would be in recession in short order and that's a big chunk of China's export marketIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I wonder what happening it will take to stop this 'everything continuing as we're used to it being because that's what we're used to' attitude. The way we all live is unsustainable, there is rapidly becoming less of everything oil, food, water, gas, mineral ores etc. and never once have I seen it suggested that it might be a sensible move to look at ways of using and needing less of it all. We would still have considerably more than most of the rest of the world but I never hear use less gas, use less oil based goods, eat simpler food preached, just spend, spend, spend and you've got more to enjoy yourself with now that the economy is growing again, doesn't make a lot of sense does it?0

Indeed, an exposed candle is a greater risk, than an enclosed Hurricane Lantern.
Yes but I would not necessarily light it!It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

To me ( I might be wrong) 'if' Russia strikes a deal to supply China with gas, then in theory they don't need Europe, as I am sure the amount of gas China would buy/use would keep Putin happy.. but as I say this is just my personal thought on this..
Any thoughts ???
The deal will not start for several years and the gas that they will be sending will be from the far east so will not be from the same supply that supplies Europe. They actually need to build the pipeline first as well. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

I don't think it's the actual supply that's at stake, although of course it is finite; I think it's more how it can be used as a bargaining chip. With an assured income from the Chinese market, Russia doesn't need our business in the same way & could afford to hold us to ransom. Time to lessen our dependence, methinks... and the very best way, as Mrs LW so rightly points out, would be to use less.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Morning all.
Brief visit before w*rk but wanted to share this, a result of this morning's interwebulating: http://www.drlwilson.com/Articles/INFLATON.htm
Which explains succinctly, albeit in US dollars, why even 'low' figures of inflation will pauperise most of us. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Scary read as it brings home what a lot of us have been feeling "in our bones".
Must get a move on with sewing thermal bag as it will save time and fuel and better to do it before we need it (power cuts etc - or even high temps in a good summer if we get one).
Taking dd to York as there is a market stall today with clothes that were originally ManS, N**t etc etc. While I am slowly losing weight it is a good way to get new stuff that fits better without spending a lot.

Interesting discussion on the Today programme at 6.15 this morning about the Russian gas deal. Seemed to be suggesting Russia needs China more than China needs Russia. China has been buying up most of Africa and will soon be in a position to start shipping in LPG so Russia's window of opportunity to close the deal is fairly narrowIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person.
