Has anyone found a reasonable cheap garage organising system/ method or video? I am at a loss to know where to start. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I think we need to regard money in the bank as money held hostage, and aim to liberate as much of it as possible, as frequently as possible. If you have debt, priortise being debt-free, and treat your bank as a very unreliable servant. I smile sweetly at the greeters (nice people all) as I abstract my money from their ATMs.
Amusingly, I've just had my monthly bank statement, and they've enclosed some bumph about the £85k 'protection' in event of a collapse. Since my cash exposure to the banking system this week is precisely £200, this raised a wry smile. But the tin-hatter in me wonders why they feel it necessary to mail this out this month?
Actually, I will be paying a futility bill shortly, for a modest amount, so it'll dip under £200 until payday.
At the moment i am collecting loads of items with hidden compartments for storing any cash. While £85k might be the official limit for deposit protection that could change during another crisis and during a bank holiday so no way to move it to smaller account.
Once debt free I will limit my current account to just enough to cover a couple of months expenses. With all the frugal changes over the last few years it might mean I will still be cope well. Cash will be king as this demonstrates.

You will have made RL contact with me prior to that date. I am planning to kidnap J, my lovely dentist (haven't told him yet, strangely
) and he'll be a big asset to my tribe.
I have heard reference to a book (American, I think) called Where there is No Dentist by Murray Dickson.
There is also this book; http://www.amazon.com/Where-There-Is-No-Doctor/dp/0942364155
Mar, every traditonal community requires at least one, preferably more, tiny little old lady who'll sit knitting socks and dispensing wisdom (and occasional clouts upside the ear for people behaving like wet hens). You will have a role, never fear.
Of course, you'll come with added value as someone who can talk to the Other Side, and should never be short of a hearth or as many sweeties as the post-SHTF world can muster. Hmm, now starting to wonder about the longevity of various sorts of sweetie; has anyone researched this, please?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I've known Green and Blacks chocolate to last a little over 24 hours
I did have several bars of chocolate last more than 3 months but my excuse is I was seriously ill - gangrene and a burst appendix ruins your appetite, thankfully I don't have a second appendix.
In all seriousness, I never have a problem until the pkt is opened, there's a dozen bars of G&B that have been untouched for 18 months, alongside a couple of kilo in random other decent brands (If the SHTF, I'm enjoying the supplies while they last not enduring crap by choice) but they are all in 100g bars (I'm serious about the bar being open being too tempting)
I have 2Kg of Kendal Mint Cake from the 90's in perfect condition (1 bar got tested a month or so back). I suspect most boiled type sweets will last at least 10 years if kept cool and dry (the evidence for this being clearing a relatives house, the, now empty, sweet jars are in my pantry storing dry goods).
I enjoy pkt jelly as something to chew on when walking as well as making the odd trifle - I'm getting towards the end of the case dated 2008 - the're still in perfect condition. I presume gelatine sweet based jellies would perform similarly, providing they are kept air tight.

The worst of all are Jaffa cakes. I have a hypothesis that they go off after 30 minutes exposure to air. Though somehow I have never been able to prove it. They seem to get eaten before the 30 minutes have elapsed so it remains a hypothesis and not a theory. Though subconsciously I might not be wanting to waste any so eat them before the dead line. :beer:It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

There is another bar in the cupboard - but will it make it to Saturday?
What I am looking for, dear readers, is a 'chocolate safe' - a pineapple proof contraption which can only be opened, say, every Friday at a predetermined time.
Answers on a postcard please....0 -
It's a well known fact that all sweeties evaporate on exposure to the air. I'm REALLY surprised you lot didn't know this!0
