    Hi all,
Before catching up firstly a belated Happy Birthday to Butterfly Brain, hope you had a lovely day and evening.
Secondly I'd like to share an almost shtf moment.
Our remaining moggy who 7 or 8 years back went through 2 summers bringing mice and small critters in during the early hours decided to prove himself at 5 this morning:eek: I am a light sleeper and had only got to bed at 3.30. I instinctively work up to the strange sounds and shone my bedside torch down beside the bed to see him drop a very much alive mouse (at least I think it was a mouse and not a baby rat:eek:)
Now I'm a little out of practice at mouse catching and have a huge amount of clutter on the floor beside the bed and a fair few plastic boxes of stuff under the bed (OH calls it the shop when we run out of stuff like pasta, sugar coffee etc.)
Luckily in a very cramped and cluttered space with a very interested moggy I managed to catch the critter:D:D However although I held it by the base of the tale it bit me  twice:mad:
It has alerted me to the need to
    a) Sort out the clutter in the bedroom pronto !
    b) Check the stores
    c) Get my arris into gear and de clutter the rest of the house (dreading this, what if I discard something I might later need:o)
    d) Prepare myself for another summer of critter catching:(
    e) Buy some mouse traps to place about just in case I don't catch one. Any recommendations welcome.

Our little chap likes to bring his little gifts upstairs and play under the bed but this space now houses boxes and I really thought he'd grown out of this, but I guess he needed to prove something and he certainly did. He can still catch em and I need to have a mega sort out and organise.

    Here he is, bless him,

SIEGEMODE are you up to date with your tetanus jab? If not it might be worth checking with the GP to see if you need a top up after being bitten by a wildie critter.

Thanks you reminded me, have called and now awaiting a call back from the nurse. It appears my last tetanus was 2005.
For a couple of years from early spring to late autumn I'd be woken by the sound of critters hitting the underside of the mattress at stupid o clock almost every night and sometimes twice a night. Back then there was less clutter and less stores to worry about and my frame was smaller and it was easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces.

JK0 thanks for the Simon's cat link they are brilliant:rotfl:

    Belated happy birthday Butterfly Brain.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Siegemode you deserve a medal , I would have expired if I had seen never mind be bitten by that thing, I hope your ok . Think I shall stick to dogs at least I will live maybe reach end of natural life span , if I had a cat i would be dead in a week I'm afraid. My phobia is them things with long tails, give me snakes ,spiders, bugs anything but them. On another note my veg is popping through the soil at a rapid rate seems the mild weather is helping. Blooming maggots are back again at back door usually in threes got eaves checked for dead birds etc and gutters can't find where they coming from, oh thinks they coming up from the ground as they only come when it rains, I think it's my next door neighbours brown food bin as its on other side of my fence where my back door is. I had a peek but couldn't see any on her bin. They are yellow , I even thought they were being dropped from nearby tree but they not. Getting used to them coming every time it rains. I can't put chemicals out there as I have a Yorkshire terrier, any ideas anyone pleasssssse I at wits end here thanks.

  • Having suggested the Tetanus update to Siegemode might that be something to be thought about in the general mode of prepping? How many of us are current with all the vaccinations we could have? I know I get the Flu Jab each year and had the Pneumonia one last year but do we need an update for polio etc that we all had in childhood, medical care availability might be a bit short on the ground after a SHTF event, and all the protection you can get before hand will be invaluable.

I had a thorn in my finger that I simply could not get out - it was very long and very fine and had gone right in for its full length - so went to minor injuries where they dug it out for me. They checked when my last tetanus jab was and gave me a booster, which surprised me a bit just for a thorn but I was very grateful for their care. They told me a booster lasts for 10 years so hope that bit of info is useful
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    hi folks

I just thought I'd log in to share my tetanus experience. I was clearing a lot of brambles last week, got rather scratched, and as I was visiting the GP anyway thought I'd ask if I was due a jab.

He told me the current thinking is that once you've had five tetanus jabs you're covered for life. Since I had the standard three as a baby, one as an archaeology student (not allowed on a dig without proof of recent jab) and one more for gardening reasons about fifteen years ago I never need another one :j

Might be worth counting up what you've had so far and getting yourself up to the five in your lifetime - one thing less to worry about in dire times.

Thanks to you all again for such a great thread. I read most days, but don't very often think of something to add.

  • Oooo I can add to the mouse stories.

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I had a weekend away at a rather 'nice' hotel in the countryside. All was well - fantastic really - til the second evening when I went back to the room and found a mouse scootering about as if it owned the place. Maybe it did.

It was a very clever mouse, not bothered by any noise or even the presence of humans, but scooted away under a bed as soon as anyone approached it. I tried, then called the hotel staff who tried, but none of us could get near it. As soon as we moved away a little it was back out from under the bed though. It obviously had us sussed as useless humans.:rotfl::rotfl:

Eventually the hotel staff agreed that they would have to get us another room - I just could NOT sleep with thought of mouse running over the bed or me!!:eek:

My friend, however, was more upset at having to move rooms!!!

    You tell me please......am I just a wimp?:rotfl:
Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.
