My list was just what will probably go up due to floods. I have a lot more variety than that actually stored :)
  • I buy Sainsbury instant mash , it is the nicest one by far, I also have lots of tins of potatoes, tins of mixed veg and other veg, some tinned fruit, one upright freezer is full of frozen veg ( A lot of it is what we grew last year) which will be cheaper than fresh this year, the chest freezer is full of meat.
I was horrified to see that Aldi have increased the price of the peach slices from 29p to 32p, in fact their prices are getting more or less the same as most of the supermarkups and too many good cheap lines have been removed in favour of branded stuff :(
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Sainsbugs Basics peaches are the best and cheapest I've found, with pkts of crumble mix, jelly and instant/tins of custard.
Oatmeal and porridge oats are vital. Use for breakfast, to thicken soup/stew, to make oatcakes, plus biscuits, flapjacks and cookies.
Tons of soup mixes and dried veg, barley and lentils.
    Those are my staples :)

I just found this site. There is a lot to read but very interesting. I read the article a little down the page about sugar. Nothing I didn't know already but nice to see it from a different source.

I was actually looking for Athole Brose because Ds and I are reading Kidnapped and it was mentioned in the book along with Drammach (oats and cold water) which was eaten when they were on the run.

PiC, ask your vet. Mine taught me how to do chickens several years ago, and cats too, though I've never needed to do cats. It was his suggestion, not mine. Saves us both a lot of time and the birds a lot of stress!

  • CRAIGY you can heat up the milk and use it for cereals or hot drinks etc. it pays to heat it over a gentle flame on the hob and stay with it as it catches on the bottom of the pan quite easily, I'd be tempted to experiment with mixing some dried milk to a paste with cold water and then topping it up with boiling from the kettle and perfect making hot milk that way, Lyn xxx.
