Yes, the rye bread is lovely and is fine with soured milk instead of the buttermilk. I'm going to try the pumpernickel with figs next and maybe the seedy loaf, the book's a good investment, Lyn xxx.0

I'm like Mar and have just decided to keep less meat in the freezer - I think i've just carried on from when we had our own meat, but buying it here costs the same whether you buy large or small amounts so silly really.
Agree also about the varied uses for corned beef - had forgotten about tinned stewed steak - wonder if it's dairy free? (there's often dairy in stock cubes etc) as I used to like it when I was young. Will have a look when next in a supermarket - i'm off to the city with work next week so shall have access there.
Loving the talk of trips to Norway - sounds lovely and makes me hanker for my wilderness days :-)

Don't think I'd be drinking it either if it still smelt of liquorice.0 -
Ssshhhh already, stop talking about the secret weapon, the fr*y bentos tinned pie. Excellent value (widely available at £1), stackable and can be flung underhand at advancing zombie hordes like a frisbee but with sufficient power to sufficiently dent the undead.
I am intruiged by adding canned chicken in white wine to my life. Can anyone recommend any brands or is it all pretty much the same wherever you get it?
Beyond knackered today as have had Mum up visiting (just escorted her and the shopping up to the bus, Dad collects her at the far end). We've had fun and even managed to get what she was after plus some other things such as yarn. Yarn makes my mother a happy bunny.
Oooof. gonna wander around the web and see what's happening then may curl up with a rental DVD as brain about to shut down.

MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »they stock a jar of wonderfullness that is KIELBASA, it's a spicy sausage under a layer of pure white pork lard and the product is super in anything you can make with mince , I even use it for pasta sauce. They often have it on special offer at £1.99 a jar and it's well worth having in store. They also have a jar of beans with bacon FASOLA which is beautiful too and if you like beetroot, there is an instant BORTSCH soup which comes in at 49p a packet. All good things to have in reserve for a powerless day, Lyn xxx.
Got a jar of the Kielbasa on your recommendation but not yet tried it.
I was intrigued by the instant Bortsch when I saw it; I like beets but wondered whether it tasted of beets or chemicals?
Will have a go at the fasola too, though I keep a lot of tinned beans (not baked beans though). If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
WCS put in a google search for:-
