He just called back at 7pm! Said his phone was acting up! The RV said aye well yer boss is going to be acting up as well cos I had to call out a joiner and you're getting the bill! LOL
Was really wild, much worse than last week's storm. I think the postman opened the front door and left a parcel in the porch, and that caused the wind tunnel effect.
Neighbour's brand new Audi has 2 wheelie bins on the bonnet. And worse forecast for tomorrow.

 Bet he was out doing his Xmas shopping, Mar. Good on the RV for telling him about the joiner's bill.

Weather's quiet down here but it must have been Baltic last night as there was a frost on the grass outside my flat, traced still there at 10 am. And it almost never frosts amidst these buildings, even if it's a full air and ground frost only 200 yards away, we're so sheltered.

I was snuggled up under me duvet and me fake fur blanket (£5 from a chazzer, love it to pieces) and kept nicely.

Hope you don't get blown around some more. Ever thought of moving to lower ground?

    This is true!

Righty, this person has some RL stuff to do, so stepping away from the interwebs to get stuff done. I'll check on yer termorrer, if we're spared.

Remember, folks, if it's windy, be sure to tie a brick to your cat's tail (to stop it blowing away in a gale, natch).

  • It's still raining here and, although it nowhere near as bad as Mar has experienced, it's windy too. :(

    Fair enuff! :rotfl:

It's howling nicely enough here in the city, so I hate to think what it's doing at mar's. For those others of you out in the wilds, stay warm & stay safe.

Glad you are waterproof again Mar, have been thinking about you all day as the wind and rain flew around our house. You really need to take a pic of your neighbours Audi complete with wheelie bins

Its a tad chilly here. Had a minor prepping crisis here, load of ys turkey mince cooked and ran out of chilli mixes so threw together a spag bol and added some creamed cheese which made a lovely sauce and saved the day. I have started buying cartons of chopped tomatoes as they are much better than the tins for some reason. Have one freezer neatly packed with several days roast dinners for Christmas and beyond. Now to start work on the other freezer so its more organised and can start the New Year a contented prepper.

  • Mar, so glad your son was able to come over & help.
A neighbour of mine once lost the top layer of her roof, it was a sort of felt roof that looked like tiles but wasn't & the whole lot just tore off in high winds and torrential rain, it was 3 o'clock on a Friday afternoon & the LA repairs department closed at 1 o'clock. Fortunately she was an ex army wife, she phoned the local garrison & they sent some lads over who fixed up a temporary repair for her 'til the LA were back on Monday.

 Blimey, my team are taking repair calls until 6 pm, the emergency repairers are out til 10 pm daily. After 6 pm, the nightime cover picks up when customer services aren't there and the emergency trades go out at any time to stuff which simply can't be left until conventional hours.

Mind you, we do get some fools considering a dripping tap to be an out of hours emergency.............. they get told to call back in normal hours.

It started to rain last night so haven't had a frost but it's looking clear now so I'll probably be able to get to the lottie later. Am currently doing domestic stuff exp boiling the big pan of kidney beans I soaked overnight.

This is the last of the dried beans and I reached the decision that the annoyance of the soak-n-boil plus the cost of the gas probably means that I'm as well to stick with the canned ones at 15p each.

Ginny, I am switching from tinned tomatoes to carton passata. The price is comparable in Liddly (31p) but the tins contain 400g and the cartons 500g. Plus they're lighter and take up a fraction less space.

Underbed tomato cache, after the adjustments made yesterday, is now 20 tins tommies and 20 cartons passata.

And to think I can remember when a tin of tommies was 7p. It went up because of a bad harvest, crept up to 13p, then 19p etc etc. Any other cynic noticed how a bad harvest is cited as an excuse to raise prices but a good harvest doesn't cause the opposite effect?

The same thing happened to bread after a bad wheat harvest due to a really wet summer; once the retailers know people will bear the price there is no reason to reduce it

My ghillie kettle turned up but had a dent in it - was cosmetic only, no structural damage so I got a 20% refund :D. It won't stay pristine for long so I am happy with that.
