I think you can use oil as the fat in baking and vinegar as a raising agent - check out some vegan recipes for ideas in that regard? obvs vegan diet doesnt include dairy or eggs but I know vegans like cakeC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinaterI dont suffer from insanity....I enjoy every minute of it!!.:)

Ahem. Ghee keeps for ages, anything saturated will store forever (oils go rancid as they oxidise). So lard and dripping will see you through

I am a happy little camp stove coffee maker! and I got candles...remembered at last.
PAH im not sure about ghee, it is butter without the water I think and is usually used in Indian cookery.

I found an article on canning your own butter (in jars!) sounds quite straightforward if you have the patience.

eta I've added my official title to my sig; I had to add the word 'Toothbrush' as I don't want people thinking I sharpen heads, although I certainly could sharpen heads if necessary... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

On topic, so we don't get banned what is every one doing about long term butter or marg for using on bread etc and baking?
I managed to get some tinned marg from Approved Foods in only order I have had with them and main reason I did it and have ordered some Crisco shortening from Am@zon as it has a shelf life of two years unopened and 1 year opened.
I have never tried Ghee is it nice, suitable for putting on bread and crackers?
Thanks
Ghee is clarified butter - like a grainy solid oily buttery fat. Not nice for spreading at all (and waaay too expensive) a little would be ok brushed over hot toast but as it has no salt it wouldn't be that nice.
The AF tinned Rosa Marg is really good for cooking but not very nice for spreading.
Vegetable 'ghee' from Asian shops is ok as a stored cooking fat (and comes in tins) and is much much cheaper than butter ghee.
What I've done is use mayonnaise as a butter/marg substitute, it works for all savoury items (not so much for jam butties though! :rotfl:)
Butter can be frozen I believe.0 -

Ghee is just clarified butter, but as Joolzred said, it's pretty hard. I disagree that it's grainy though. It's fine for frying with. If you want to bake with it, take some out, let it soften a bit to room temperature, and it'll be fine. To turn it into a spread for toast or whatnot, whip in a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt, that'll turn it nice and spreadable and tasty.
Ok, so I read the CRAPROLLZ membership requirements and discovered I meet 7 without even trying to prep. Am wondering what sort of a person that makes me... :rotfl: Sign me up. In the event of a zombie apocalypse, I'd want to be defending my hubby with a nice shotgun. I've never held a gun previously, but have an inkling I'd do just fine in the circumstances.
Aim for the head. Whatever its condition.
Oh and just to add: I replace missing eggs with a dessert spoon of white vinegar and applesauce is a good replacement to butter in baking and you can easily and cheaply bottle it at home.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
I love the idea that flying Ryanair is up there with the zombie apocalypse :rotfl:
I'm pretty sure it was a RyanScare flight which did the nearly-crash landing with me at Gatwick 3 years ago. If not, it was SleasyJet, really can't remember after all this [STRIKE]gin[/STRIKE] errrm time! And I had my pocketed gilet on, too.:p
