Preparedness for when

Today I am going to buy some charcoal so that we can cook on the bbq if need be.
BBQs are OK, unless it's persisting down.
A camping stove is a better option.
If you have a £World nearby, they have GW Cup-A-Soups at 3 boxes (12 sachets) for £1.
They are quick, warming, and use very little fuel to prepare.0 -

We have a car port but high winds would be an issue.
I don't know of a £ world but I will have a google, thanks£36/£240

Also, get a few bottles of sauce.
Sauce will add flavour to dull foods, which will help tempt a jaded palette.0 -
Soworried, another item that helps with comfort is a radio tuned to the local station - if there is any trouble in your area, the local radio is much better than national. I used to have a wind-up one that ran down every ten minutes and was a bit of a pain, but then someone on here mentioned the John Lewis little ones with a solar panel, and those keep going for a while with none of the tedious winding. I find reading by candle light a strain, and when it gets dark at 4, the nights are long without some form of entertainment!0

Fuddle, my brother has a small shady garden on the north of his little house (in Devon) with high fences, overhanging trees & a big shed to contend with. But in his first couple of years there he managed to grow respectable amounts of lettuce, herbs, carrots, leeks, french beans & even a little wigwam of runners. He trained things up the fence, he grew things in pots & bags & tubs & buckets, and won an award from his housing association for best small garden! 2 years on, he now has an allotment (despite being told there was a 20 year waiting list) and could supply his local greengrocer with spuds. So it can be done; we're pretty far south here & the growing season is long.Angie - GC Aug25: £478.51/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

I was wondering if you could help me?
We were hit last night and left without power, It has really left me thinking. :hello:
Today I am going to buy some charcoal so that we can cook on the bbq if need be.
I am also going to buy more tinned foods that can be eaten cold or heated in the cans. I'm struggling to think what to buy though, hotdogs are my first buy but what else?
I am also going to buy more candles. We really couldn't have done without them last night.
What would be your must haves?
One of my must haves is organic cold pressed coconut oil. You can cook with it, put it on your face, use under arms as deodorant.... If it has just a fraction of the claimed benefits it'll do for me!

Another thing I have to have is ground coffee. Since reading about the pesticides that go into it and effects on the workers, I've stuck to organic. I get the cheapest though or stock up when on offer.0 -
O god I love semolina.....0

Its been an 'interesting' 48 hours - my area - Scumthorpe and Trent Valley district very badly hit by both high winds and tidal surge - extensive flooding, mass evacuation of entire villages, emergency evacuation of fields full of livestock, power failure, trees and lamp posts down, roads collapsing, flood defences breached and bitterly cold.
Last night was spent helping friends to move their horses, battening things down and moving equipment to higher ground.
It was eerie .... just the noise of the wind and water in the darkness.
Good deal of water damage but no lives lost
Bedsit Bob - those 99p store lanterns were an absolute godsend! They went on burning brightly for hours - will be back for more of them and the batteries tomorrow :T:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

Have been watching the news footage of areas affected by flooding, looks like a horrible mess to be clearing up. Little loss of life though in this current storm surge so far. Most of the stuff lost to and damaged by the flood waters is, well, just "stuff". Which is nice to have but of no real importance and I'm increasingly thinking that we all have too much of it. Rediscovered a childhood pleasure for cold days today - bovril with hot water. Think I'll pick up a jar or two for cold weather preps....0

Big winter storm here in the US. Over 250,000 people in Texas without power. I don't know how many more in other states are going through the same thing. I just want to say thank you to everyone on this forum because of you I have been getting in stores of food, alternative lighting and other supplies. I live in Florida and have been reading your posts since this forum started. We do have a lot of similar websites for the US but they tend to focus on weapons, bugging out and possible mayhem. On this forum common sense seems to rule.0
