elaine241, impressive preps. What about a snow shovel ? We keep a picnic kit in the car as well and always a small stash of proplus, painkillers, glucose tabs, mint imperials and an emergency phone charger.

As for screen wash, always check that it will be ok in severe temperatures. Last year following a winter check at the garage our screen wash froze  We were on our way up north to see FIL and thought the worst that it was the pump or something costly. Turned out it was the Tosco screenwash that was only good to -2. Since then we have used the bluecol one that is ok to -36 I think. hth

I had a few years where I was very aware of my measurements, 36 inch thighs and a 32 inch waist made shopping for trousers interesting. The thighs are smaller these days, unfortunately the waist is a fair bit larger.

Ok so who else felt compelled to measure ?

Well, TSHTF a little this evening, several major uk bank customers are unable to access their cash/make payments - just seen it on facebook as a status shared by Martin Lewis. People having cards declined all over the place causing a little trouble in queues etc...

    a) I am thankful we keep cash just in case of this (no help for online shopping though!)

    b) A little worrying... wonder what's up?

  • We've just been away for a long weekend and boy do you guys get through a load of posts! I don't contribute a lot but I read everyday.

About the boots. I have been asking about (my kids go to a country school with a lot of farmers/keepers etc) and everyone recommends these toggi canyons boots. My friend wears hers all the time and said her last pair lasted her 7 years.

Totally agree about the chocolate - one emergency supply you should never be without.:rotfl::rotfl:
Yes totally agree. But it's surprising how many emergencies there are every week that require I must eat that chocolate........:p

Just seen a poster on another forum saying they had to go hungry because of it. What?
    Still annoying and inconvenient though.
    And a tad worrisome.

Aye my bank again. We have food and such and hubby doesn't bank with either of them anyway, but it will be a little annoying it's still going on tomorrow.

I can't imagine not having any food in, that's just ... odd. I guess though it could be someone due a benefit payment today, who hadn't been out yet.

On the subject of cars I have my aging 206 serviced once a year in November. I reckon that if there is a time I need it to be in top tune it's winter. Plus I have the front tyres swapped to winter ones. I knew it would cost me this year and nearly left it - but what price safety? My goodness the brakes seem keen now and I no longer have to pull the handbrake up to my chin :rotfl:. You've reminded me to put the winter kit in the car as well, though never thought about the screen wash.

I wasn't affected by the RBS/NatWest problem, but one thing I'm glad for is my 2nd credit card - I pay them both of every month, only use for normal spending, don't worry. I only got the 2nd one because Sainsbo were offering double Nectar points for two years, and that seemed a good offer for doing absolutely nothing.

Now, I realise, its Mastercard, and my original cc is a Visa. But my debit card was also Visa - if anything had happened to Visa itself, I'd have been in trouble. So I'm definitely keeping both cards - things like this latest glitch, yep, they're part of the whole RBS problem, but what if .... its just nice to have a backup.

ETA - just seen Marda's post that she's *probably* ok for food :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yep, and Tesco and Sainsbo probably have some food in too :T
