Great, thanks BBNot heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

It's tempting to stock up on dried food (rice, pasta, packet soups, instant noodles etc.), to save space, and for the long storage life.
But what happens, if the emergency is a shortage of water?
Likewise, much raw food isn't much use, if there's nothing to cook it with, or even if fuel is limited.
So, really, we want to be stocking several types of food, eg. dried, raw, fast cooking, and pre-cooked food.
The last category will, admittedly, be rather monotonous (cold beans, cold soup, cold sardines - the general theme being COLD), but at least you won't actually starve.
Throw in a few bags of boiled sweets, and some sauces, spices and seasonings.0 -

Woohoo Mar, you're a time traveller - it says the photo was taken on November 22, 2013 ..... spooky!0 -
Bob, wise words there. A large part of my list is tinned meats, eg corned beef, hot dog sausages. Partly because of the water shortage risk, and partly because we have pets so while we'll be stockpiling pet food, we want things in our own box that could double up.Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

Much as a care about buggalugs, in a SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation, she's not getting any of my food.0

Yeah BUT what about your pets Bob ?Nothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0

Our 99p shop currently has in some 'Seeds of Change' sachets of pilau rice, 7 grain mix, and several other varieties of pre cooked rice some with additions and some plain rice and basmati . The use by dates are through to mid 2014 so worth maybe having a few in stock to add bulk to soups/stews made from tins? Would certainly save fuel and water if there was a lack of these, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Too right. Cats can hunt for themselves. The parental units have two spoiled rotten 10 y.o. cats. They live high but are still very efficient hunters and wouldn't starve.
Besides, they're cute enough to scrounge off the neighbours if necessary. And humans are lousy mousers.......:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
