  • I've been in my job for 8 years since the school made the decision that it would be cheaper to provide the children with photocopies rather pay for books even though they have to pay my wages too.

I agree! When I bought my Kelly Kettle I also ordered a Gilert Flint & Magnesium lighter, the forces swear by these - however, they are not the easiest things to get used to for lighting fires so I heartily recommend the waterproof & windproof matches, invaluable for lighting fires easily. I bought a tub of 25 as well as the Gilert flint etc. that way, can always light a fire :D

Over the past week, as well as the Kelly Kettle I also bought the gorgeous G3 Rocket Stove :T its awesome! got delivered (see it here) yesterday, day after ordering from Wild Stoves - after seeing how gorgeous that is, just ordered their 2.2 Litre enameled steel kettle so alongside that, with my Lodge cast iron dutch oven that I got from Amazon last week, I'm covered for cooking in any emergency now.

Also, have bought a comprehensive First Aid Kit for Mountaineering (had everything in!) , Steri-Strips, a Friskars X5 Camping Axe - (see it here) , Kopak - 2 bags of (Tinder) and just about half an hour ago from Amazon a Snugpak 4 season sleeping bag (hubby already has one in Olive Green, bought it when he was in the forces, they swear by Snugpak)

I made my own emergency survival kit last week also containing these items in an old small Jack Daniels Tin (had a minature in) : Water Sterilising tablets. Hacksaw blade, Wire Wood Saw, Emergency Whistle, Fish Hooks, Paracord, Waterproof Matches, Magnesium Firelighter, Emergency Candle, Needles, Cotton, Scalpel Blades. Brass Rabbit Snare, Brass Snare Wire. You can see a picture of it here:

I feel I am totally prepared for if TSHTF now, I've been on this mission all week and it has cost a fair bit of money, but we are now prepared for being snowed in, cut off, no power (live rural) and also if in other ways the SHTF.

    :D

:) On the subject of preparedness and stationery, you can get small notebooks which are waterproof and can be written on with pencil or pen.

These can be a useful wee addition to a BOB or whatever we're calling them these days. I was horrified at the price they want for the in the outdoorsy shops (£6.99!) but you can get them for circa £2.50-£2.99 in Army Surplus places.

When we were in the woods with the Mad Bushcrafters (7 days and 6 nights of incessant rain and usually blowing a hoolie as well) I was coveting these things like crazy.

After all, if you have to write something down, you don't want your paper disintegrating or your ink bleeding into illegibility. :)

I have this one, I recommend it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B005RK4VN0/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=318949011&s=sports
  • Can anyone tell me how to post a photo in my post? uploaded to PB (as won't work at all with Flickr) and even though resized small on PB site, it still comes up HUGE on here, filling more than page. That's using direct link option on 'insert image' button. Whatever I choose on PB it comes up on here in preview as HUGE picture. Can someone help? want to show you something :(

This is just purely out of curiosity of course, but just noticed the post above that I made a few days ago, asking if anyone could help me with inserting an image, not in a huge size - well, I see it has had 11 thank you's! not one response with help on how to do this mind LOL but 11 thank you's. May I ask what in fact y'all are thanking me for? :rotfl:as I asked a question, no one answered :rotfl:

And the thanks were much appreciated :D I did try that, clicking the little icon, however when it displayed the pic on here it was HUGE and I mean, bigger than the page. So, I resized it small and it still showed huge, that's why I wondered if anyone knew why. Sadly, I still haven't gotten to the bottom of it.

Sorry I have not worked out how to do that either:(

Is it possible to post the link to the image instead then and invite people to look?
