Just to add there is also the option of doing your own Debt Management Plan
The OFT Guidelines on debt collection apply just as much if you go it alone.
A couple of the free charity Assisted Self Help systems below from the CAB & Cashflow to give you some idea (both award winners I understand) -

Always best to have taken full advice on all options and not everybody is suited to going it alone with a DMP0 -
Time to face the music - I am not in enough debt for Payplan and CCCS to even entertain me unfortunately, believe me i've tried
Tixy- I know DMP's effect credit rating, i was just pointing out that in 5 months mine hasnt been effected.. so far
