Pushchair shopping nightmare

I'm looking for a nice, sturdy pushchair for my baby, rear facing with carrycot a bonus. Someone recommended Silver Cross pram which converts to pushchair after 6 months, I must admit it looks nice and stylish... but is it practical? HELP!!!

My children are past the pushchair stage but the mumsnet site may be of some use to you, they have reviews of all types of buggies/pushchairs/travel systems etc.

After trying out several models in various shops, we've settled on a Silver Cross 3D pram system plus the Ventura car seat. I'm looking around for prices at the moment and plan to buy in 3 weeks or so. If you search for it on Kiddicare.com, they have a video demonstration of it.
My colleague at work (who's daughter was born in September) reckons we could get by with a sling for the first few months and move straight onto a cheaper regular pushchair (eg Maclaren XT) , but my wife has a bad back and I don't think she could cope with carrying our baby around for more than half an hour or so at a time. Plus a sling with decent back support (eg Babybjorn Active) is fairly expensive (~£70) and can only be used up to ~12kg/26lbs whereas a pushchair/pram system can be used for years. We're hoping to hold on to ours and use it for our second child in a few years, maybe with a buggy board.0 -

Just a word of warning but what you will find out with all these pramettes are that the baby grows out of the liner , as thats all that makes it into a pramette , within 12 weeks . Also the M & P car seat ( Primo Viaggio ) and the Silver X ( Ventura ) are both tiny seats and babies grow out of them by 4-5 months old but are too young to go forward facing at that age though .
Something like the Bebe Confort Loola with the Creatis car seat and Windoo Carrycot would be a good combination for you . The Loola seat unit can also be rear or forward facing so thats a bonus as well . http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BEBE-CONFORT-LOOLA-TRAVEL-SYSTEM-SO-PEARLY-GREY_W0QQitemZ300093085390QQcategoryZ66700QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300093085390#ebayphotohosting
Just to give you an idea of what it looks like .
Again something like this would be good as well , http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/hkinftrvsysredpnk?Ns=price|1&N=1467 , the seat unit on the Infinity is also a rear or forward facing unit . Or here without the car seat for £105 cheaper , http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/hkinfpshcrrycotnvyyello?Ns=price|1&N=1467 and then bu something like the Graco newborn car seat that is compatible with this buggy .Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

Just wanted to say that pramettes are practical buggy's don't get me wrong but just expect them to last past 12 weeks as a pram thats all . And if your baby is long , ie 52-55 cms , not much past 8 weeks before the pram part is too small and you have to use just the buggy part .Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .

Thanks Natalie1974. I couldnt agree with you more, babies outgrow prams, and everything else within the first few weeks. So my husband and I decided to do away with the 'carry' car seat, (which is very heavy own its own anyway), instead we went for a Graco car seat (one that you leave in the car) and now we just need to get a pushchair, with carrycot so we could keep an eye on baby whilst on the move.
At the moment, I'm torn between silver X and the one you recommended Bebe Confort Loola because both can be forward or rear facing. I'm running out of time actually coz my baby is due next week, so will need to order the pushchair today. Anyway thanks a lot for your help. wish me luck!!!!0 -
Hi , Sorry I have only just seen your reply . The Silver X is only rear facing when in pramette mode , once they outgrow that the have to just go forward facing in the normal stroller bit , where as the whole seat unit on the Loola is reversible so even at 2 years old they can still be rear facing should you want this . Good luck with everything and hope your pram turns up before bubs decides to put in an appearance !
