Barclays/barclaycard

Hi, I posted recently to see if the above two were linked. I am defaulting on c/cards and loans through a DMP with CCCS, and current accounts with hefty overdrafts lay with barclays.
I was advised by CCCS today that they have had a number of reports of late, of barclaycard freezing current barclays accounts in order to recoup missed payments, and are advising anyone in this situation to change current banking facilities asap.
Hope this helps some of you x

    Hi catatonia,

It is not just Barclays that are doing this and anyone who is planning on a DMP either through the CCCS/Payplan or a DIY DMP should seriously look into setting up a new bank account with a lender you have no debts with.

It is a regular occurence that people post here in shock when the bank close there account and have there savings or salary swallowed.

It happened to me back in September with the Halifax and do not wish it upon anyone. I hope that you have sorted your own account out as I have just been through the worst 6 months of my life why I sorted this mess out.

    Cheers

  • Fact read this :
If you have a cheque book and barclays has stopped you from withdrawing from you account then you can write as many cheques for £9.99 as you want to recover your money and barclays can do sodd all. As they will have to stopp or return xx amount of cheques. Pay these into another account and watch the wad coming in !!!!

Hi Bailiffchaser, Im not sure that advice is actually correct.

In most cases people on this board are in debt on there accounts or in there overdrafts. you have no right to be presenting any cheques if they have cancelled your overdraft facility and taken your money IF this the case and Im pretty sure you could be commiting an offence if they have warned you not to do this.

If you do not have any arrears on your account it is also unlikely that your account would be stopped. If it is a clerical eror normally they would sort this out with a simple call.

I do not mean any offence but are your opinions your own personal views or do you actually work and are qualified these legal matters?

So how can you tell which Banks are linked to which cc/loan etc companies. Is there an easy way of finding out which bank owns what? Thanks. m
  • It happens all the time the banks have the right to take money from your account to pay themselves money you owe them.
You should always have you current account somewhere different to the ones you owe money to.

I struggled with that one MET. I don't know if there is an easy way to find out, but I just searched barclaycard and read the small print.
Am now in the process of opening a Halifax account which does all the work for you plus gives £100 cashback - trick seems to be to do this before anyone gets wind of you defaulting, otherwise the only account you will get is a basic one - no cheque book, debit card etc.
