Experian Credit Report

I recently started looking at my credit report online. I defaulted on a loan and credit card about 4 years ago. Earlier this week I tried to improve my credit score by removing associations to ex partners and my Mother.

The associations has been removed off my account but also at the same time the defaults were removed. I think it's a mistake but it has improved my credit rating quite a bit. Will the defaults come back on when someone realises the mistake or have they gone permanently? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Check that the profile section at the top of the report includes your correct current (and any previous) names, your correct date of birth and your correct current and previous addresses. If it does then you should be seeing all of the data a lender would see in your name were they to carry out a credit check.

If this checks out, the defaults still don't appear but you know there are there and should still be showing, I suggest you call our contact centre and ask them to investigate. It may be something to do with the format of one of your addresses.

My name and address is correct. They were on yesterday but checked this morning and they are gone. Registerered to Equifax to check on there and they are still on there. Also on Equifax was a credit card that I paid off 4 years ago (cleared the balance of £7000 in one fell swoop) but this does not show up on Experian.

I'm not that bothered about getting the defaults back onto my credit report that I would phone up for them. :p

Its normal for some debts/credit accounts to appear on only 1 or 2 of your files. It will stay on equifax until 6years from when it was closed (ssuming not defaulted).

In terms of the missing defaults - does look like a mistake. I would think its possible they might reappear within a week or so. But you might be lucky and they might not. If they don't appear within say a month then I'd imagine its likely they may not come back.

You could also email us. The thing is, if the defaults are there you probably want to see them on your report. There are a number of reasons they might have disappeared and our advisers will be able to uncover the precise reason on this occasion. Up to you of course.

If they don't comeback, do most companys use Experian or Equifax when checking on a persons credit history? As it stands now there is a significant difference between the two.

I wouldn't email you to put a default back on my file.

Experian is the slightly biggest of those 2, with equifax just behind and noddle(callcredit) still quite a bit smaller.

Presuming you were hoping to apply for credit - there are some lists around which indicate which lender usually uses which reports. Its not foolproof but you could certainly read it and try to go for somewhere you expect will check experian only.

For things like mortgage it would be usual that a lender would check 2 or all 3 agencies.

I clicked on changes since the last report on my credit file and this came up:

You no longer have a defaulted or delinquent account on your credit report

The average age of the accounts on your credit report has decreased

I imagine they will come back at some point (possibly start of August).
