Have a good look on Amazon or even the on-line shops of major supermarkets: they are often available for less than twenty pounds.
The real cost is not so much the toothbrush but the replacement "heads: (brushes). These are generally available on Amazon (or sometimes Ebay) for a fraction of the cost in shops, but before you commit to a particular electric toothbrush, find out what you will need to pay for replacement brushes.0 -
Colgate do disposable battery powered ones (normally in amongst the other standard toothbrushes) - I bought a "sonic" one last week just to see whether I'd get on with an electric one - its a back and forth motion on that one - some do circular. Might be worth trying one of those as a start off. The one I got does seem pretty effective as its already reducing some long term staining on my teeth.Adventure before Dementia!0

Avoid ones where you have to change the batteries - they're generally the low-end ones, and pretty rubbish.
I always recommend the Braun Oral B ones to my patients, but there is no need to go right to the top-of-the-range. The thing that cleans your teeth is the head speed and head action. That's the same on the ones from the lower end of the range right up to the top. You just get more gadgets and heads in the box in the dearer ones.
Also - The Braun ones always seem to be on a half-price offer somewhere. Tescos, Boots, Superdrug, Amazon - they seem to roatate!
So - I would say, get one that normally retails for about £50-£60 at half price. So no need to spend more than about £25-£30.
As for heads - beware Ebay. Counterfeit Oral B heads are out there, and I believe one Ebay seller was recently done for selling just such items. Proper Oral B heads are also often on BOGOF deals in supermarkets or other legit places - so the trick is to stock up when you see the deals, and then regularly replace the heads to keep up the brushing efficiency. At least every two months, but more frequently if you're heavy handed.
One (of the many) good things about these brushes though is that you can tell from the feeling if you are pushing on too hard - so it's an indicator to press less.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I love the philips sonicare ones and recently bought an oral b when my sonicare broke. I didn't rate it and have gone back to sonicare. They were recently half price in boots. You can often get them half price on ebay or amazon. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

That's exactly the sort of thing.
Plus, Oral B toothbrushes are the one's that fit these!

I got one last week on special offer in Wilkinsons for £8, I'm not sure of the brand, think it might be a Wisdom? I don't know if the more expensive ones do a better job but I've noticed already that my teeth feel cleaner and seem to stay that way longer than with a manual brush like I was using.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0
