The Sun are giving away guaranteed entry tickets to BT's events at Hyde Park and Victoria Park in London during the Olympic Games. Lots of activities to do and some great bands too!

The events are free anyway, but booking through The Sun's page releases you of the pain of the booking fees. :D Tickets are also not needed to enter the events, but I presume they stop letting people without tickets in if the event gets too full?

Edit: From the FAQ type page:
Access on the day to BT London Live Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square is free and you can just walk up on the day (subject to capacity), however, if you want to guarantee entry to the sites at Hyde Park and Victoria Park you will need to book tickets in advance.
A limited number of Guaranteed Entry Tickets for the BT London Live free-to-access events are available now. Pre-booked tickets for the free-to-access events provide guaranteed entry before a specified time. After this time, all customers enter (free of charge) on a first come, first served basis.
Tickets are free of charge and an order processing fee of £3.50 will be applied to each transaction of up to 4 tickets.

Edit 2: And by the looks of things you can't enter without a 'guaranteed' ticket before 2pm on most days? Can anyone make any more sense of this? http://www.btlondonlive.com/useful-info/free-to-access-days-detailed-event-information

I've just ordered my tickets, and not at any point was I asked for any card details. Odd.

You can't enter without a guaranteed ticket before 2pm; says exactly what it does on the tin. Meaning you need a ticket to enter before 2pm and after 2pm you can enter without a ticket 'subject to availability'.

Yeah, that's the point of sharing this - ordering through BT's website, you would be charged.

I shared The Sun's promotion whereby no fee is needed to be paid. :j

  • Thanks OP - The date I chose it is only guaranteed entry BEFORE 9AM on the Saturday morning so I better be up early!!! lol

The thing I don't like is NO FOOD AT ALL to be taken inside - I assume by 'liquids' we can take 100mls of WATER in at least???

So will have to eat breakfast and lunch out or at the venue & was hoping this would be a cheap or free day out which it would have been with a picnic in tow! ;);)

( I can imagine the food on offer will be expensive and something like a pound for a can of Coke!! ... & I can't even take in a flask of tea! )

mhuaha,, like to see how they are going to police a nofood policy. As if I am going to spend a penny on the overpriced crap they sell!

Theres a dozen ways you can hide all sorts of food in your pockets, and theres no way you can refuse someone with diabetes bringing a sugary food with them or you are going are setting yourself up to get sued BIGTIME if there are accidents.

Don't worry, we've got a couple of weeks to get sewing those hidden pockets into coats and bags ;)

Hi, sory to jump in, but having been to one of these events (Hyde Park) today, I would say that if you have children it is not worth the bother.

Firstly, they make everyone (and I mean everyone, including my 3-year-old) go through airport style security including a hand-held metal detector search and bag x-ray.

Then there is the no food/drink policy. I took in a 750ml water bottle (empty) which was removed as no containers over 500ml are allowed. My brother was carrying 3 x expensive aluminium drinks bottles for his family, cost him £10 each, they had to be binned (yes, binned!) on the way in.

We brought a picnic - literally all of it was binned on the way in. Sandwiches, unopened packets of biscuits, fruit, crisps, per-packed salads - the lot. The bloke behind us in the queue asked whether some of this stuff couldn't be donated to a homeless charity but the staff were disinterested and miserable.

So we were left empty-handed. My brother asked if he could take in an apple for his daughter, but they refused. Once inside, all that could be purchased was bottles of coke/sprite/fanta/water for £2-£3 each, plus junk food to the tune of £4 for a burger. No healthy options, overpriced rubbish. There were ice cream vans inside but the owner/employee told us they were "not allowed" to serve whipped ice cream, only Cadburys branded ice creams which were £3 each.

And to add insult to injury, "London 2012" branded drink bottles were available to purchase for £7 each.

There was nothing for kids to do inside, save for the Cadburys House which we didn't even bother to queue for to find out what was inside. No stalls, no rides, no face painting, games - nothing. We ended up leaving after an hour, the kids were bored and hungry and we had already spent a fortune.

We were so looking forward to celebrating the games in some way and despite not having actual event tickets, thought this would be a great way to get into the spirit of things. In all, I reckon we must have ended up spending £80 (including travel from Brighton), on a family of 3. We'd have been better off going to London Zoo for the day.

I'm sorry to be so negative, I am just still fuming and upset about a wasted day and feel other MSE members should know this is in no way a "cheap" day out.
  • Victoria Park BT Live is even worse.

    1) The place is empty.
    2) There are lots of Security Officers around mostly playing with their mobile phones, yawning or staring at you out of boredom.
    3) You cannot bring any food or drinks inside. While you are in they charge 2.50 for water, 4.50 for hot dogs, 3.00 for ice cream. All food outlets are rather low quality and focused on volume of sale which is simply not there as you can walk out of the park and get everything much cheaper.
    4) There are no queues so you can come in and out as you wish. People who paid 3.50 to ticketmaster for printing their own ticket must feel pretty silly.
    5) There is the Sun area - where they try to sell you the paper. No freebies, no wow factor, no promotions.
    5) There is loud music on most of the time so local residents are furious and avoid the event. The organisers and their big lorries made already a lot of damage to the recently "refurbished" park. It is all very sad - especially considering the impact on wildlife, local residents, joggers.

Whoever sold BT the idea of investing in this disaster is a really cheeky one. It made sense maybe to have it on the opening ceremony night but now the noise, the damages to the park, the overzealous security searches are just a bit too much. Charging anyone 3.50 for a ticket when others just walk in for free is simply dishonest.
