Just ordered some a 6-pack of Brita Maxtra water filters from Amazon for £16.66 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brita-MAXTRA-Water-Filter-Cartridges/dp/B000QEW5KS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341869853&sr=8-1
I know it's not as cheap as they have been in the past, but I'm down to my last one so thought it might be useful to someone out there

Incidentally, you can also get LAICA Biflux Water Filters which are compatible with Brita Maxtra and there's also FilterLogic FL-402H Water Filters which are compatible with Brita Maxtra and Laica Biflux. Amazon are currently selling 4 x FilterLogics for £9.95 though not sure if these are the cheapest.
Tesco are/were selling Brita Maxtra water filters 4-pack in store for £10 until 18/07/2012 as well.0 -

Thanks. I did look at the Optima cartridges, but was put off by the negative reviews. It's probably worth buying one to test before I pass judement!I popped into my local sainsburys yesterday, and they had a box of 3 Britax MAXTRA on a deal at £8.00, picked a few up as this is the cheapest i have seen them for a while.

Grrr, was in Sainsburys yesterday looking at the price of cartridges and they were still at a higher price. Will have to re-investigate tonight...0 -
I currently use Optima filters and am quite happy with them. I only know of one person on here, who didn't like them, they said they lived in a hard water area and said they didn't find them very effective. I live in London; the water here is fairly hard and haven't experienced any problems.
The only problem that has arisen is you can't [yet] recycle their cartridges.0
