Do New banks Account 'NAMEs' have to Match the Passport/D' licence Exactly?

When opening a new bank account, does the Name appearing on the account have to match your ID (passpord/ driving licence)
eg, David Smith Weaver is on the passport,
then the account name = David Smith Weaver?
or can I have it as David Smith? (just first name, and middle name)
- Without the last name showing, on my new bank account?
?

Yes, the names need to match. I don't see any bank allowing you to omit the last name from their records. Their anti-fraud and money laundering rules alone will put paid to that. Asking for this to happen at the application stage will likely result in the bank staff refusing to put one through.
Why do you not want your actual name on the account?urs sinserly,

I've not stated my middle name before and they've been fine about it, so never tried to remove my last name. Don't think that'll be successfull.0

My mum has all her accounts using her middle and last names without her actual 1st name on there. I think that's far more common than trying to remove your surname though....Sealed Pot Challenge #239

Having said that, it's highly unlikely they would leave your surname off, more likely they would just call the account 'Mr D S Weaver'.
The alternative is to try to open a business account, with the business name of 'David Smith', but that would cost more to run.0 -
My HSBC card has the format of Miss S L SURNAME, whereas my Natwest has my name in full apart from my middle name which just says L.0

When I was with firstdirect many years ago you could choose what to put on your cheques. eg: if you were Peter Steven Smith you could put "Steve Smith" on your cheque books (although they would show your proper name on the statements etc.
Not sure what the rules are now.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

You can call your account anything you like.
I have known people who organise their finances by having several different bank accounts for specific purposes:
"Car account"
"No. 2 account"
"Joint account" etc.
A year ago I opened a second account because I needed a specific one for my mother's care account. The council said it needed to be called "Direct Payments account". When she died I changed the name to Number 2 account.
All done on-line.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yes, but they will all be under the account-holder's name, ie 'DS Weaver - Car Account', DS Weaver - No 2 Account' etc.
They will be under the name of the person, persons, club, trust, company etc that owns the account. We have several company accounts and we call them what we like to differentiate. None bear any resemblance to my name or my fellow cheque signatory's name.
I have a joint account with my wife, written as initials only, a trust account in the name of the trust, not my name, and various savings accounts designated by first name and surname, initials and surname, full initials only, trust name, and abbreviated trust initials.
You can call an account any name you like. Obviously the signatories have to be verified as individuals, but their names don't have to appear at all on cheque books, documentation etc. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
