We've just got engaged and my parents asked me what we would like. I had not even considered the possibility of getting presents. I told them thank you but maybe hang onto their money and put it towards some holiday vouchers for our honeymoon when we do get married next year. We are paying for our own wedding so didn't expect anything at all from them or anyone else.0

We didn't get presents from either set of parents when we got engaged, and I didn't expect to get them to be honest, but then they've already offered to contribute to the wedding so we don't need other presents on top of that.
Otherwise we've had bottles of Champagne and a bit of money from relatives (which has gone straight into the wedding fund), and quite a few cards."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
My Dad gave me a glass vase (he collected them and this was his best one, worth quite a bit) which was wonderful of him. I think this was to make up for his immediate reaction to our engagement, e.g. "Hope you don't expect me to pay for the wedding as I've spent all the money". Ahem
Our in laws gave us £20 which we used to buy some champagne glasses. My husband's Nanna also asked us to buy a keepsake from her, so we chose a picture of Scarborough which is where they used to go on holidays together.
I wasn't really expecting engagement presents TBH but I was touched by them. I think a card is always nice too.0 -
We got 60 odd cards but no presents, didn't expect anything either. We're getting married abroad in May next year and parents are coming so not expecting to get a wedding gift or any contribution which is fine, we just want them to come.0
