Tax Rebate??

Hi,
I have been told my son can claim a tax refund, but reading up, I am confused lol.
Briefly, my son left his job on 20th April, after working with them for 2 years. (he is 20 now), he applied for JSA and had interview 23rd May. He recieved 2 payments before it was stopped as he hasn't enough ni contributions and also he didn't give a good enough reason for leaving. He is now on hardship payments, starting this week. This lasts until 13th August when he will start JSA Income based.
Question is, can he apply for tax rebate? And does he need his p45? Or does the jobcentre do the rebate for him?
His employer (mcdonalds) hasn't yet sent him his p45.

He will need his P60 as he was still working on April 5th. He can then reclaim the overpaid tax from the last tax year.
He'll have to wait until this tax year is finished before attempting to reclaim this years.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Its doubtful that he over paid tax anyway as the OPs son had been working for the company for 2 years, presumably his tax was correct for those two years.
As soon as he finds another job, his tax will be sorted out for this year through his payroll. ie for a while he wont pay any.
If he does not get his P45 before he starts a new job he must complete a P46 preferably on his first day. (I believe you can download one from the HMRCs website) or his new employers should be able to.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
