Mortgage repaid - charges query

A number of years ago, I sold a house and now need to find out what my lawyer charged (and for what) as well as what portions of the sale value were retained to be paid to those financial institution who had "charges" on the property (my bank, a third-party secured loan lender and the estate agent who dealt with the sale).

I have found a letter from my lawyer referring to an earlier letter and statement of account but am unable to find either the letter or the statement to which the latter communication refers.

If I ask the lawyer who acted for me, in the sale, is he/his practice likely to simply provide me with a copy or are they more likely to levy a charge?

If anyone either A) is a lawyer; or has ever requested similar, please would you be kind enough to advise me?

Is there a set minimum period that legal firms have to keep records for?

If so, how long is that period, please?

And do they charge for copies of documents, such as the one I'm after?
