It's hard to tell what is* bothering you; it sounds more like you have a set of general gripes you want to moan about rather than a clear, coherent problem.

Its called haggling. Happens all the time.

If you told them £220 was too much you may have got it for less.

If it bothered you that much, why didn't you just say "no thanks" and take your car/business elsewhere?

The other explanation is that the OP is a conspiracy theorist, and sees everything that happens as a conspiracy by the men in suits.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Probably all makes of suits are involved, to the conspiracy theorists. Load of pathetic losers with too much time on their hands.

They could smash up your old car with sledge hammers if they wanted to, it's theirs.

If you're happy with the car and the deal then don't worry. I'm sure there's no conspiracy involved.

You could have asked for more for your car or just turned the offer down and either sell it privately or go elsewhere and trade it in for a better price.

Wow, a conspiracy theory over a couple of bangers........

    Man on the Moon?

    JFK Assasination?

The Banger with the dent and the over priced replacement?

All these mysteries and many more may never be solved.....maybe. I think you just met a car dealer who saw the desire in your eyes for a new jalopy and took advantage of that.
