JSA - Few Questions

Hi,
I just signed onto JSA (second time but first time potentially long term). I'm just wondering when they start to give you jobs to apply for etc and start questioning why you aren't applying etc?
I am obviously looking in my trained field at the moment and no where else , when will they start to question this?

  • Anyone? I am worried about when they will start to pester me a lot more. I have a meeting with advisor on Friday.

Most jobs round where I live are not suitable (Warehouse/factory work aggravates my arthritus and puts me in a lot of pain). This is why I am looking to relocate but this hasn't happened yet.
  • You can restrict your jobsearch to your usual field/ a certain salary for thirteen weeks. After this time you will be expected to apply for any available work, and also extend the area in which you are willing to travel. However, even within the thirteen weeks they can insist that you expand your jobsearch if you do not have a reasonable chance of finding work in that (vocational) area, although I would note that they rarely do this.

You should tell them about your arthritis - you can limit your search to work that would not significantly exacerbate your condition.
  • I don't have a usual field/salary as I have just come out of education. Will they still leave me 13 weeks to search within my trained field.

I have told them about my condition. I am currently taking medication which helps me manage day to day but when I have previously worked in factories/warehouses it has exacerbated my condition and made me in a lot of pain.

I pray they don't send me on that work programme, one of the companies they work with and send a lot of people too is my ex-workplace :S

Yes, I would expect them to allow you to use your trained field as your search area for now, although they may well expect you to select others where your skills could be used - admin is a common one.

You shouldn't be sent to the WP yet, they only tend to send people early in the claim if they are not "work ready", and as a graduate you are unlikely to fall into this category. ;)
  • *Phew* Sigh of relief there as that place is not somewhere I want to go back to!

I am cautious of admin as they reccomend data entry but obviously continuos typing all day is not something which is reccomended as it will exacerbate my condition. I have to take regular breaks on computers as too much typing hurts (a lot).

I am seeing my advisor on Friday so just want to be prepared as I never actually met my advisor last time (Some technicality that she was away)
