Hi all,
Im really stuck for ideas and im looking for some help in finding somewhere to propose to my gorgeous OH.
Unfortunately the best laid plans always fail...i had intended to take her to tebay, a remote sort of getaway and propose in front of the heart shaped forest. This is an idea that i havent researched any further because i do not have a car (were both students...law/fashion...and wont be getting one any time soon) and have realised that it is too remote for me to be able to get too. I realise it may sound slightly tacky but its actually a place she knows from her childhood which would have made it even better.
For the time being we are in middlesborough for 2 months but im happy to use trains to travel but unfortunately do not have a massive budget.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated and i look forward to hearing what everyone has to say,
Thank you in advance,
Mathew

I proposed to DH in the lake district whilst we were camping. We were on a little campsite at the side of Buttermere.
I'd bought loads of packs of love hearts before we left for the lakes. I got one that says "Will you" and one that says "Marry Me". I put them both in a ring box and hid them in my rucsack.
One night we were sat after dinner by the side of the stream that runs along side and I asked him.
He said yes. This was over 12 years ago now and we've been married 5 in September.
Not sure if you are close enough to the lakes or if you have somewhere similar? It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -
Thats lovely
sounds very special and congratulations also For the upcoming anniversary.
I have considered the lake district and i'm certainly not ruling it out. Its about 1-2hours away from where i am but we are both frequent travellers so that wouldn't be much hassle. My concern is how close the train stations (if any) are to the lakes themselves but i will obviously look into that properly. Hopefully ill be able to find a nice remote spot that will be perfect for the occassion
I do love the love hearts idea too...i was going to go with rolos though as when i was away on holday for a few weeks i told her i had kept my last one and she didn't believe me (not many peope woud keep it in 30 deg heat) so i posted it home with a letter instead of a post card. She still has it now and that was 3 years ago.
Sweets can always be made into something special and its the extra effort that adds the cherry on top
thank you for sharing your experience with me and thank you for your advice
i really appreciate it 0 -
Hi Matthew,
Have you considered taking her to Judges in Yarm? You could take her for a Champagne afternoon tea and then take her for a walk in the grounds. There is a fantastic bridge overlooking a waterfall which is so romantic. You could propose to her there and then take her back in for a glass of bubbly.

It's not too far from Boro and you could stay overnight if the budget will stretch.0 -
Hi Matthew,
I live in the area and wondered if you had considered visiting Roseberry Topping, near Great Ayton? Something that wouldn't be too expensive as you could take a picnic, bottle of wine/champagne, have a leisurely walk and propose with a fantastic view?
Hope all goes well whatever you decide to do and best wishes.

Thank you both for those suggestions. Over the coming week or so i will look into them and really see what i could do in those locations and what views/scenes i can find.
Judges in yarm sounds very nice, afternoon tea will certainly keep her guessing as its the sort of thing she knows i enjoy anyway.
Roseberry topping sounds very interesting. Definitely sounds scenic which would be ideal. How busy is it? Obviously i want, if possible, for no one to be around as i know she hates attention being drawn towards her. Sounds brilliant though.
Once again thank you both for those suggestions. I will look into them when i have a spare hour or so. I still need to ask her dad for his blessing yet so i do have a little while to plan everything and research more0
