Help my mother please

I'm from the uk
Please can i get some advice.
My mom is 60, this is how the story starts. The council pointed her to a landlord, which we rented from for about 2 months, but he didn't pay his morgage off, and had problems so with around 1-2 weeks notice, we were kicked out.

Then we were put in a tempoary hotel me and my 4 siblings, for around 4 months, they found us house, then my mom must have left the chip pan on and the kitchen got burnt and bathroom.

We got moved out of there into a tempoary house, and thats where we have been living.

They now want £18.000 for excess, there is no way my mom can afford that, also from out first landlord we had to put out things in storage which is now in the thousands,

My moms on benefits and a carer for my father who had a stroke, there is no way she can pay this off, and i'm a student, We will be going to the citizens advice bureo soon, but i just need some advice on what will happen or anyway this can get resolved,

Please reply,

Thanks alot.

  • Can't advise on what will happen at CAB but contacting them was the best thing you could have done. There are charities and organisations set up to help people in the situation your mother is in. Keep your chin up!

Was this a council house? If so then they are the ones who have the buildings insurance ... did your mother have contents insurance(if not tell the council ) and i am not sure they understand this as where would a council house dweller get 18k from..

Get to the local advice centre asap.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I can understand them wanting some money to cover their losses as a result of this.. but and £18k excess? This can't be for real. This kind of money might go a long long way in rectifying it (depending on the property size and damage).

I would ask to see their insurance document with the excess on (although not sure if you are entitled to it).

Definitely a case for a solicitor or CAB

This 60 year old woman trailed her 5 children to temporary accommodation.

How stupid are you to think that we are stupid enough to believe you.
