This is the one area where using an IFA is usually the best. What value is the fund?

The see a local IFA who is likely to be able to get you the best annuity as they usually have access to the best deals and can also haggle.

Paying a fee on £100k is also likely to be cheaper but you can see what's offered.

I have had an initial meeting with a local IFA a week ago and have another appointment week. But was trying to get info on the annuity market rates before then from a broader range of companies.I understand Just Retirement is very good with Enhanced annuities. My preference is for paying a fee to the IFA,initial quote was £500.Thanks for your reply Jem

But only deal with IFAs and sales reps who have them on their panel.

£500 is good. It should wipe the floor with sales reps. The £500 can also be collected via the pension so you dont have to write the cheque out. It is then factored into the annuity rate over the term of your life expectancy.

There is no point trying other sources as the IFA is whole of market and you have got a good fee.

Thanks very much your comments are appreciated
  • As to the original question of where to find rate tables across the whole market: it seems that these have been removed from the web. Previously - say a year ago - you could get them on the FSA website. But now this links you through to a commercial organisation which wants to give you a quotation.
In my view this is wrong.
You can however, get current rates (on a monthly basis) from the magazine Moneyfacts: Investment Life & Pensions (annual subscription cost £195; but this doesn't seem to be held in many reference libraries. However the City Business Library does hold it.

The IFA should easily beat HL on figures quoted.

My IFA has contacted the pension provider Aegon with whom I have two pots(executive scheme and SERPS) and has been told there is a £1900 penalty if I transfer to another company. He thinks it is probably because I am trying to access the benefits early.I am 66 In December ,last year I advised Ageon I was planning to retire at 70 do you think this is the reason?reason for the penalty
