Sainsbury's till vouchers exessive?

Sainsbury's have started giving out piles of paper at the till, telling me I'd saved money or offers of bonus points for things I rarely buy and that expire within a couple of weeks.
They've gone to the effort of printing a double sided receipt but then have wasted so much paper giving me a handful of bumpf. How much paper are they wasting if they give every single customer 4 things.
How many people actually use and appreciate these?

I have used some of them but you're right, most are useless! These are what are known as 'catalinas' in the US xx0

We've just had a new Sainsbury's open locally and I've been using it for my top up shop (after Aldi/Lidl) as it's convenient and I'm right off Asda. I'm comforted that I'm not really losing out financially by not going to Asda so that bit of paper is a help.;)
As for the other bits, I find it irritating that the xtra Nectar points vouchers run out so quickly. Surely not everyone goes shopping on the same day every week? I think I might complain at the CS counter. It won't do any good but I might feel better.
Thanks for raising this, at least I don't feel so much of a grumpy old woman now!0 -
I find these quite useful. Since moving to Scotland, I have the advantage of a Sainsbury's within walking distance of work. I use this for mid week bits and pieces, mainly cheese and coffee. This usually triggers bonus nectar points when I spend £20 or more, which I do when I do my main shop.
I also find that if I use vouchers from the Sainsbury Magazine, I get a voucher for bonus nectar points on the next magazine.

We seem to have months where we only give out a couple of vouchers, and other times where like this week we are giving out about 3-5 vouchers per transaction.0

I seem to get vouchers when I don't spend a lot - to encourage me, I suppose. I don't use the money off if I spend £20 ones as I don't do my main shop there. However, many of the others are useful and have a reasonable date. Now if I could just remember to use them in time...:o"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together... there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart... I'll always be with you. "

It's the Co-op vouchers that annoy me. They are general expenditure ones, like "200 loyalty points if you spend over £3 on confectionery" and "150 points for spending £2.50 on fresh vegetables".
I just hand the sheet to the cashier and say, "Use whichever ones apply." (I don't keep running sub-totals of every category of item that I've bought! And I don't weigh the veg. so I have no idea how much it costs).
It usually means re-scanning items individually to re-check the prices or getting a calculator out to add them up and doubles (or triples) the amount of time at the till... just for a few extra bonus points worth about 20p.
Then I have the "£5 off if you spend over £30" ones. Oh... I've spent £28.30. "In that case", I say, "Hold on a few minutes and I'll find some more stuff." And then I have to go round the shop trying to find something I want for a few quid whilst everyone in the queue waits. What a waste of their time and mine!
Still... it's free money and they're the ones who have to work out which vouchers to use and deal with the angry customers that have to wait whilst people try to figure out how to get the shopping that they want AND make use of these tedious vouchers.
It's not the way I'd run a business! It must cost them a fortune in extra staff labour, and needlessly irritate so many customers.
I wish they'd just scrap the lot and automatically deduct any discounts at the till without bothering with any stupid vouchers!0 -
I think its a bit like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing...two different departments probably funded by two different parts of Sainsburys.
I have sooo many vouchers which tell me if I spend £way-to-much I get say 10 points or something similarly small back. I get so fed up with these because I never spend as much as they want me to yet continually get vouchers trying to get me to spend that much, yes I know its a marketing ploy but its just getting a bit old. What about regocnising what I do actually spend rather then seeming to say its not good enough.
I used to be able to get vouchers other people had left behind and leave mine behind for someone who may be able to get better use out of them but in one store they tear the vouchers up saying no one can use them but the person they were printed for, really irritating jobs-body who stopped me walking out of the store after taking one voucher I'd been given by the customer before me. I was so angry by the way I was spoken to in the store at Angel in London by what appeared to be some sort of supervisor that I nearly made an offical complaint, he is lucky I have better things to do with my time. (Ticking time bomb though...)0 -

I'm quite happy with the ones I've had lately. 400 extra Nectar points when I spend £20 or more.
I complained this week because I didn't get any.0
