Hello all
We are now the proud owners of a breadmaker. It's a Logik bought from Currys for £34.99 and it's pretty darn good! :T
We made our first loaf last night and even though I had to stop it after it had mixed and kneaded because I didn't put the pan in properly (at one stage I thought it was going to bounce out the breadmaker) it actually came out perfect :j I was chuffed! I've got some French bread on the go at the moment!
Now I'd love some advice or suggestions on the best books to buy etc if anyone has any? Also, what is the best way to store the bread?
Thanks in advance

I've got a Kenwood and bought a book on breadmaking in a bread machine.I've hardly used it though,as my favourite bread recipe is one from the manual that I have modified -I always add porridge oats.It comes out perfectly each time.I always make the same loaf.
I store my bread in a plastic lined cloth bag.It keeps well, but I have to be careful in the summer, that the bread doesn't go mouldy.
Happy baking!I've found my BM a great boon.I wouldn't be without it now.
PS The book was 'Fresh Bread in the Morning' by Annette Yates.0 -
A friend bought me a copy of "The Complete Bread Machine Cookbook" by Sonia Allinson in a charity shop not that long ago and some of the recipes are fab.
I have a stoneware jar with a lid which I use as a bread-crock but fresh bread doesn't hang around here long enough to need one, really.
I quite like trying out different combinations of whole-wheat and white flours, with or without added seeds in it. Which is just as well as I have about 25 kilos of wholemeal flour here courtesy of Approved Food0 -
I havent been lurking long, but I also got a breadmaker today courtesy of freecycle.
Id recommend popping to your local library. Lots of books there and best bit is you dont have to spend any pennies. Buy a nice jotter which i did to write all your recipes in.0 -
Thanks for all the great replies. Am looking at the books suggested and reserving some in the library
I've been experimenting today with the flour in our cupboard. Did a loaf using plain flour. Not convinced that it's better than bread flour yet but maybe it's just the Co-op Plain flour that's the problem.Grocery Challenge: January: /£2140
