Professionally Written CVs

I am looking for a professional cv writer as my cv is not getting me many interviews. All the ones I have seen on the internet are either very expensive or do not seem genuine.

Does any one know of a good company I can approach to have my cv reviewed and improved/rewritten without costing the earth?

thanks

I am not a professional CV writer but I could give you a few pointers all for free!

Do you want to post a link up to it(block out any identifying details)

I don't work in your field, and if I did this might make more sense...but to me, the "co-ordinate over 72,000 new offences per year" sounds like a properly prolific criminal.

Thanks for that, got it up now.

Firstly, I would look to reorganise the CV a bit to make it easier on the eye and simpler to find information. Use slightly larger headings fonts to make each section clearly defined and easier to find.

Personal info like name address, email etc.

I would then go straight into your employment history, consider editing these so each one is a small paragraph about what your suties are/were-choose the duties that are most relevant to the role you are now applying for-if you get to interview there will be more opportunities to add new information.

Also you probably dont need to add the earliest 2 employers, unless you are doing so for a specific reason-you are showing a good length of employment history with the others.

Next I would go to education. Include courses under here, its all one section and the employer can see everything you are trained to do. Put your IT skilss in this also. Your O Levels-List them so they are easier to read.

Finally, merge together your greatest achievements and profile paragraphs into a small paragraph about you. Go on too long and it wont be read all the way through, so make it concise but full of information

References-its up to you, I always list mine-others advise to put available on request-do what you think here.

A good CV should have all the information in no more than 3 or 4 A4 pages, Also print preview to make sure that each section is not seperated by a turn in page- use the space bar to space it out if needed.

When doing your statement(merge of profile and achievements) try not to go into too much detail. You want to sell yourself and invite questions. You could say something like " I have initiated a clinic for members of the court, which has been very successful" for example. Its good to have a sentence in about dedication etc but dont go over a sentence, just use it as an opener to your statment, for example, "I am dedicated, hardworking and reliable" and leave it at that.

Put in some of your personality. The best CV I have ever read and still sticks in my mind had Nephrology listed as an interest. She got a call back and job offer that day, because I was intrigued.

Finally in your statement-and this needs doing for every job you apply for-you need to put in a short statement as to why your skills, qualifications and attributes make you perfect for that job spec. Just by dropping a couple of sentences in about how you can manage the role as per company specification will sell yourself to employers.

    PHEW have I waffled on..............

Hope this helps a bit :)

I think you should never pay somebody to write your own CV.

I'm a 'recruitment guy' and I'll do this for free for you.

Send me your current CV (feel free to remove personal details) - If you're interested send me a private message.
  • You should sign up to LinkedIn and use the job function on there to look for jobs and advertise yourself. I have found this very useful and a great way to see what sort of jobs are on the market.

I know from experience that many people are now recruiting from social networking sites, so make sure that you keep on top of all the sites and you make a name out there for yourself.
