If you are so busy / far away / inaccessible to internet banking surely it makes sense to leave a couple of hundred in the account for contingencies? Maybe you will in future.
I think it you put it down in a calm, factual letter Nationwide will rectify their mistakes (although not sure what they can do about the DDs not going out).Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Perhaps it the bank had not taken a DD for over £400 to which they were not entitled, because no loan existed, then there would have been "a couple of hundred" in the bank for "contingencies"
Did you actually bother to read the thread? No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date0 -
The reason you got short shift from me was i am sick and tired of people who rather than get on a phone to sort things out go straight off on one and threaten to sue anything that moves..You would not believe the times i have seen threads with the hidden gem of "how much can i sue for" and thats all the poster came on for really...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
If you work on a rig you are on a huge salary, due to the risks so something doesn't add upDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Hi,
Can I just point out that the OP will not be getting that money direct - it will be his LTD company - he will then be paying himself a low salary & the rest in dividends ....
So the money goes into his LTD company bank a/c, he then has to transfer it across to his a/c.

I do! (have big income); you might want to scroll up and try to ready post #5.
And I truly wish that neither you or anyone in this forum & families do come across such circumstances.
Thank you all for contributing, time to move on and deal with real life.

Once again the greedy banks do what ever they like and leave customers to pick up the pieces. That said however, Nationwide are my bank and many years ago we applied for a credit card which was refused. I spoke to an assistant at the bank who said to appeal, which we did and the credit card was approved. They said something about credit scoring and that when you appeal you get a real person to look at it.
They shouldn't have taken the £400 but I suppose human error is to blame and we all make errors0 -

I read the thread. I understood the thread.
Cancel the d/d with your bank to prevent a repeat - obviously phone Nationwide to demand they do what they said they'd already done and obtain refund.
The rest ....... its going to have to be a complaint, in writing to Nationwide. Go through their internal complaint procedure. Then on to the FOS. This is all going to take time.
They've royally stuffed you. I can see exactly where you are coming from.0
