Kidcat, I think it needs to be pure oat bran rather than whole oats, although maybe oats are cheaper so if they work I'd be glad to know!
Half a pop bottle... I was thinking you could make a mini polytunnel - cut the bottle lengthways, put the bran on the soil, cover with the pop bottle cloche so that the bran doesn't get washed away with the first bit of rain but the slugs and snails can get in at either end? Useful for the lottie as you can't be there to sprinkle bran every five minutes, as it were.
It seems very widely believed that bran kills slugs - but even if it doesn't, they do love it and when I used it, the plants near the bran didn't get attacked. It's just keeping the bran going, that's the problem - as soon as it rains it's gone. I am going to give the plastic bottles a go this time, I think.I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

I was reading in the wartime farm book last night that they used to mix bran with something which sounds like a dehydrator/poison - wonder if bran will work on it's own? Be good to know0

Afternoon All!
Just a quick pop in before we go off to work. Totally crackered from the job yesterday, worked from 8 am until 11.30 pm solid, and boy did I know it once I got to bed - my feet throbbed and ached so much I could not sleep .
For all those committing slugicide - here's the site for you!Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -
I feel for you Mrs Chip. Hope you make lots of profit tonight!
Sorting out school stuff for tomorrow. Have discovered why their reversible fleeces look very small on them.......they are age 5-6. My children are aged 10 and aged 7 wearing aged 9. Oops, bad parent sticker for me I think.0 -
I also plan to make some fleecy trousers, that is what I bought the double slanket for as its not to thick, like the colour and plenty of material for my size 18 bottom and thighs. Bought a pattern as knowing me I will not have enough material for said bottom.
Been a beautifully hot sunny day here after a very dull start - rest of week has been total opposite.
Was a day when I was happy to be wearing a hat at the cemetery keep sun off my neck, just annoying had to wear tights and keep arms covered but was not to uncomfortable and actually didn't sweat, usually heat kicks off hot flush but thankfully none appeared. Am getting them less and less so hopefully coming out other end of Menopause now.
I was seriously impressed at how well the stone masons had brought up the headstones they have worked on so far, the stones look new not nearly 200 years old. They have left the weathering on back and sides but sanded back and brought up the writing on the front. The whole place glowed in the sunshine.
I had a nice chat with the ecologist and his wife employed to deal with Japanese Knot weed and other horrors and hope to chat again to him at next open day. Was trying to find out what he felt the future holds, he was very interesting. Just wish I could remember his name:o
Picked up another 6 teabags, it was hubby who went to Mr S while I was at the Reconsecration Service and he refused to buy more than that, so will pick more up next week. We use a box a week so I want 52 boxes to have in then will just buy one each week to keep stock at that. Next thing will be sugar as hubby cannot stand most things if there is not sugar in it. So far our 99p store is still selling sugar for 82p its the cheapest place I can find next nearest is B&M and HomeBargains at 89p.
We were down to last 3 packs of toilet rolls - 9 in each pack so bought another 5 packs , I got hubby to take me to B&M when he picked me up. Also got some more tins to add to my stores, they are doing 4 tins of chopped tomatoes for £1 so picked up another 12. Pink salmon is £1.09 for the smaller tin so usually prefer red salmon for fish cakes but will try the pink as red more than double the price now, although do have a few tins in store thankfully. One thing I forgot to buy was tinned spaggitti in tomato sauce as B&M didn't have any and forgot to look elsewhere as down to last tin and hubby likes it instead or even with veg on his meals.
Right better go and make something to go with the meat I threw in sc yesterday. Could easily just go to sleep.
Hugs and Love to allxxxNeed to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Oh fay I feel for you - I have a retired neighbour who grinds and sands and grinds a bit more and a bit more and... goodness knows what's left to grind over there. That's bad enough, but he also whistles marching tunes. I swear he only starts that up when I go into my garden. It drives me totally nuts!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Westcoastscot - I ordered that Cottage Diary book with my Wartime Farm, so glad to hear its worthwhile! Fuddle dont worry, apart from being a mistake, after I registered to order my books TBP sent me the code to use for next purchase so obviously not a State Secret!
I've always found that eating chilli helps with muscle aches, anyone else noticed?
The lovely James Wong has a 'recipe' in his book 'Grow Your Own Drugs' (no tittering at the back please) for a chilli oil foot rub (from memory) which he then uses in a further recipe for rheumatic joints. And his other anti inflamatory thingy is the tumeric milkshake thingy which was really quite nice. I didn't take it for long enough to see if it made a difference, but I really ought to try...

Edited to add, I can't see the recipe on his website, but the front page currently has a recipe for fake cola....0
