I've just bought a pair of trousers and the legs are skin tight, but I like everything else about them. Is it possible to add an extra fillet of material to the inside leg seams? The outside leg seams are a bit complicated, but the inside legs are just a plain straight seam. I've had a few google searches, but everything I've found is about making the legs smaller, rather than bigger.
Any ideas or any pointers to web sites that might be helpful will be gratefully received! TIA
Would you be able to take them back & change for the next size up, to take in as needed (at the waist, I'd guess)? I think that would be easier. I think I just heard a gunshot outside!
Stay safe!GQ - stay away from windows etc just in case, a stray bullet can do a whole load of damage.
SDG - I know that feeling well, when we moved here DD17 room was thrown together as she was mid exams, the bed was second hand and due to layout had to be adapted to fit the area. Its now much too impractical so I have been researching etc and will be purchasing her a new bed this week. Thankfully a friend has given us an IKEA voucher so it will be a little cheaper.
We have had an awful afternoon, it was a new monthly activity session for the ASD group we attend and I took OH, the boys and DD6 along. (Accessing these events is considered by my LA as a respite carers break - although I still have to fully supervise my own children) the guy who owns the place was supervising again today and he just seemed to descend on my boys and watched every move they made, telling them off for stuff that other kids were still doing. DS14 couldnt take any more and went out to the break area, but guy followed him and shouted at him about his "behaviour" I raced in to see to DS and guy walked back into hall and started having a big go at DS8. Ds14 was sat crying in a ball hitting his head over and over and I just about got him out to the car to wait. Went in and OH is ranting at me that if I didnt deal with guy he was going to.
I managed to grab everyone out with promises of McDonalds but am left with three very fragile individuals this evening. Thankfully DS14 has a friend staying over so is recovering nicely but OH and DS8 are all over the place - they fought in the car and DS threw a bottle of water of OH.
I am the first to admit that neither boy is an angel, I freely admit to them both being incredibly hard work (although in public DS14 is usually very quiet and withdrawn) but his treatment of them was awful and he was allowing other kids to do all the same stuff.
It was so upsetting, my friend was there and she walked out behind us in disgust as she said he clearly had picked on them for the sake of it.
I have emailed the group leader (she of cake crisis fame!) but am now wondering if I should complain to the council that their offer of respite has turned into such an issue, its cost me a fortune in junk food, and neither OH or DS8 will be fit for much tomorrow after this.
I think you should complain, there's no respite there at all, & as you say, its not real respite anyway as you have to stay & supervise. You'd have got more respite sitting at home!0 -

GQ,
What's that saying "All Human Life Is Here!"
Good job you are not on the ground floor having something land on you but also if I was asleep and something like smashed outside my window, I'd be to pick up the floor!
That sounds more like what happens in a cartoon the smashing of items onto the floor...
Well, that form goes in tomorrow, Hope all is alright...The couple of answers in here and the other thread after I posted it seemed to suggest it will be.
Busy doing something a bit like a lamb casserole at present...lamb, mixed veg, roast potatoes, garlic in the slow cooker, I'll steam some cabbage and leak in the microwave...
Will take my trousers in for alteration tomorrow and decide about that sewing machine, I can sew buttons and really the only things that need shortening are trousers.
I'll have another go at that pair of lounge type trousers.
I had to go out in them on Saturday morning and it looked like I was in PJ's(actually they could be used that way):)with an appropriate top...
Will look into those electric blankets and mattresses(I'll get one for of each for the single and double bed and if I ever move and have to leave one behind so be it. But for now that gives me the option of sleeping in either bed and either room where my pc is or one with just a DAB radio and less clutter.
One is at the front of the house and one is at the back.
Still means two bedrooms though that will be charged for that Bedroom Tax from April...just have to win the Euro Millions/Lottery even a win of £50,000 would pay the Rent/CT/BT for approx 5 years...a little longer if added to Mum's savings...
Having a quick tidy around whilst the meal cooks...almost got the place tidy at last. Then a quick hoover and dust...finished.
Then I'll complete getting rid of the rubbish in the outhouse.
Then finally I can go through all the stuff I put in the spare bedroom at my leisure but at least the door is closed on that room and all the other rooms are tidy and uncluttered.
Will have another look at my store room whilst I am on too...If I can stay put I may hve the interior decorated and put some carepet down(not expensive just in case I have to go)and maybe investin a new sofa that you don't sink so low into...
Just have to see how things go...I'll take second hand(I'm not proud)but probably can pick one up somewhere like Argos for £200-£300...and there's really only me so that would be ok.
Wherever I am I need a bed, enough room for all my kitchen gadgets, washer, tumble drier, fridge freezer, clothes, PC's, a TV and my CD's. I'd manage...not worried too much about furniture as such(can always sit on the bed)and if I can put shelves up that will create storage space...even if it's floor to ceiling."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. GQ - hope it's your neighbours experimenting with Newton's Law rather than gunfire! We regularly have our police jollycopter on the prowl for local delights, which makes for interesting evenings sometimes.
kidcat - what a dreadful man! Do hope your menfolk have calmed down a bit now.You always sound like you do your utmost for your children, even when it's hard (like the rest of us), but you'd think "professional help" ought to be a little more understanding, especially if it's respite - do they not understand these sorts of problems? I'd go straight to the council, too, don't bother with the minions in between!

Why does trouble come looking for people already with enough on their plate?
So much for the old "Care in the community" "Big Society" idea...
Certainly the situation needs looking into and he doesn't seem the right one to be doing that job(voluntary or paid)
Just because he owns the place is no excuse. It's tempting to say the group should be moved elsewhere. Or are rooms difficult to book in the area?
I hope tomorrow everyone is calmer and not so stressed out...what happened you can do without..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I would most definitely complain Kidcat - No-one who is that insensitive to the needs of ASD kids should be working with them, and the last thing you need is so called respite which actually aggravates the situation.
I am in the process of writing a complaint to the top bods about the way short breaks respite is now applied in our area as it is almost impossible to find anything for kids below school age that fits their new rules. No funding anything that 2nd parent takes child to even if that means main carer is getting respite, no overnights, regular things only - can't use your hours over a short space of time (or we would have asked for kids club while we are on honeymoon), no funding actual activity, just the 1 to 1 or specialist equip required (bang goes swimming lessons as DD would need private lessons not group so would be same cost as A N other child). What other options are there for a 3 year old or a 15 month old???? Yet I still need respite just as much as the parent of a -say- 7 year old who can access an after school club or brownies/cubs with 1 to 1. I got told "well you could hire a sitter so you could go out" except said sitter has to be CRB checked and have public liability!! and you can just guess how many of those there are around and for as often as we go out it wouldn't be worth my friend paying out for insurance, although as a teacher she is CRB checked.
ETA - 15 minutes on google and I can't even find insurance for babysitting - just for registered childminders!0 -
Warning of pending lurker attack.:)
The lady who is having problems with tight trousers. Could you not insert a piece of extra material up the front. I would undo the front waistband. Cut up legs from bottom to top. Add the extra strip of material, tapering it at the top so that the waistband goes back on properly and re do hem.Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot. :think:0 -
Kidcat I would be demanding to know where he got his training? There is no excuse for picking on a kid. Go as high as you can till someone listens.
More and more I am hearing of jumped up twerps who think they are something when in reality they are nothing more than hired help with little or no training at all. I have just heard an appalling story from a friend about her treatment from an Auxilliary male nurse. She did report him but still had to endure his nastiness as he only got a reprimand and took it out on her again.
GQ I hope you are ok. You are hopefully asleep anyway at this time0
