Dh and I escaped to a Scottish Island to get married. Just us and our little girl. We only had one then. Why? Because we didn't have the money to get married properly. This was the only way we could do it without having to fork out the money per head for a sit down meal. Our friends and family must have felt snubbed because we didn't receive any gifts. Not one from anyone. Jeeez, I'm filling up, it hurt. I learned wedding etiquette the hard way. Anything you can give should be gratefully received. I find the amout of cash you would like to gift is more than acceptable. :)

Awww! I don't know if people just don't realise that they are being hurtful.

Makes me want to send you a belated wedding gift!! :)

Does anyone remember clothkits? Oh we lived in them, everything was included even the thread and the fabric was so hard wearing. One of the best sewing inventions ever and suited my os ways down to the ground.

Plum puree is now bottled and all the jars went pop so will do a cold test later and then it will go under the stairs. I couldn`t stand listening to the radio, too much talk, so had on a lovely medley of my new age music, not the dolphin type. All this while the thunder was non stop and I was hoping that I could finish bottling

yuk, I just googled and clothkits came up but it`s nothing at all like the old ones and its also far far more expensive
  • Yeah = I had forgotten about clothkits
but now i am reminded - i had clothkits style kids clothes in mind.
perhaps some enterprising soul will bring them back
thanks for the memory... oooh i made a tartan waist coat.... proud as a haggis i was lol

I love clothkits - have had a couple of items recently, and the quality is still fantastic. They make great gifts also, as the fabric, thread, notiions etc come prettily tied in tape-measure ribbon!

Fuddle cross stitch makes lovely gifts, I used to do it a lot, can't now as it hurts hands. Well I still do a small amount now and again till hands protest as do enjoy it. Buy a cheap counted kit to start you off but once you have the idea you will find you can easily start on an blank canvas so to speak and do your own designs, pictures. I cannot no matter how I try draw or paint, see the picture in my head but its like a breakdown of communication between head and hands yet with cross stitch that never happened, could translate what was in head to material fine.

Be warned it is 'moreable', in that well I will just finish this piece of sky, flower, knot etc and hours go by. Enjoy.

I am still being el thicko with sewing machine, still cannot get tension right at all. Need to practise more. I used to be ok on my old Singer Treadle but just totally forgotten how to sew and need to relearn.

Sunny day again and hot so hoping to get out this pit and see if blight has got those potatoes, not checked them for about 10days.

GQ and everyone hubby just opened the Mr S basic teabags and got to admit they do make a nice cuppa, so will add a few boxes to store cupboard soon while still at 27p.

I have found or next nearest Argos (nearest sold out but this one only couple of miles away in a big retail park) has one paper compressor left for £4.99 so ordered and will collect it later and keep it as I do have some bags of coal stored in garden just in case. Living room fireplace has the hated gas fire in it but my bedroom and study still have open fireplaces that are fully usable if we ever had to use them. Wanted one of these for a long time but just could not justify the cost for something that might never be used. Plan eventually is, is to remove the gas fire and make ready the fireplace but need to find a grate for it as old one was taken away and get chimney checked, sadly the back boiler was taken out as well.

Our little car didn't let us down last night..........son and hubby went to pick up recliner chair and as its an armchair that reclines it fitted into back of car with seats down easily- its amazing the same there is as well as height.

[IMG][/img]7712515596_e72f07bc45_t.jpg chair 5 by prepareathomeearth, on Flickr

Needs recovering but is so comfortable and when reclines it is very supporting from head to feet for me, I can see on bad pain nights me sleeping on it than tossing and turning in bed because of the support and comfort. Its as if it was made for me, just the right size everywhere, although hubby found it good as well. I really am so thankful for this. The woman who offered it has ME/CFS and just got a new one .

So tired today yet was in bed asleep by about 9.30pm and apart from waking once at midnight I slept then right through till 11am yet could go back to sleep again now:mad: Was hoping to start doing some knitting as DIL wants some more hats for DGD2 for the winter - she likes fair isle type, sometimes I use two colours and others the self changing yarn both give nice effects. She asked for them as part of DGD2 birthday present ( 26th ) so need to get a wiggle on.

Mar I agreed with surge protectors I got most of mine in Lidl and ok don't go in often but each time I have, months apart they always seem to have them so each time I buy another to replace ordinary ones. They take 6 things and seem no different from my far dearer ones (except they are towers instead of flat ) as we have had odd surges over the years and not weather related, more to do with the ancient sub station.

Right going to at least sort out what yarn and needles I will use - might go lazy and go for the self patterning will dig arroud in my 'ahem' smallish stash(well it does't take up a whole room like years ago so its small for me)

Fuddle your used you going away just as an excuse. Most of my family didn't turn up at my wedding as hubby and I are different religions, they would rather I had stayed with No 1 as he was same religion as me even though he was very handy with fists, teeth, feet and what he couldn't do with a rope to bind you was not worth knowing.......so they never bought me presents but we just did our own wedding in our home with 80+ people who wanted to be there, with me doing all the catering including my wedding cake.....first wedding I had the full works that dad paid for. My religion can be as bad as Moslem for honour hence although I brought kids up in it so they could go to the school as was then best outside fee paying they knew I didn't give tuppence for religion and still don't

Started this around 2hrs ago so better see if any more posts before I get started.:p

Opps thunder better switch this off even with surge protector

    Hello All

Just popping to say hi as I'm caught up again, took a while though

Fuddle - I do mine and OH lunches from our leftover evening meal - well I actually make four portions and then we have the other two for lunch. I batch cook as well and tubs of 'ready meals' sit in the fridge or freezer for lunch. Typical lunch for OH would be:

    Portion of chilli and rice
    Peanut butter sandwich
    Boiled Egg
    25g nuts
Banana and one other piece of fruit

This pretty much keeps him going until dinner! I'll also pop a piece of cake or a few biscuits in if I've done some baking. We're veggie but you could mod his lunchbox to suit him :)

I have a sewing machine but I cannot get to grips with it  I'm useless. I think I actually need to sit with it and not get cross after 4 minutes and give up :o

Cross stitch is something I used to do when I was little and I loved it! I remember it not being very expensive as well, although I don't know nowadays.

I've been sorting out my kitchen cupboards to get them organised and they're looking much better; off to The Range now for some window shopping and hopefully a cutlery tray for the drawer :)

Have a great day everyone, hopefully I will pop in a bit more than I have been doing!!

    Malfiore,

Please don't take this the wrong way but knowing someone else out there who cannot get on with their sewing machine makes me feel better, but considering I used to use the treadle for years really it is shameful that I cannot......

Its like they say you never forget how to ride a bike. Once health got bad I found I could no longer ride one, just couldn't get balance right so had to give up and give it away about 15 years ago used to enjoy it.....its like I need to relearn everything which some things I have managed to do, others I find if don't do daily then when I go to use it have to relearn so annoying and frustrating.

Don't believe it thunder went away so put this back on and hey pesto thunder coming back ........not a drop of rain though just thunder and lightning.

    opps getting nearer

    hugs and lovexxx
