Hi, I had an issue with my car ,2005 focus, a month or so ago where water had got into engine and I got new sparks and cylinder replaced by a local garage, it broke again last week and after the local mechanic let me down badly I left it into ford and got it fixed. When in they gave me a report after thet said my exhaust (amongst lot of other faults)had gone also and it would cost £800 ish.. to fix. Basically my exhaust has blown out of the manifold or was loose? Dont really understand myself to be honest but can this be fixed for example at kwik fit and anyone any idea of costs involved with them and timescales to fix once left in?? Many many thanks..

Sorry but you will need to be more specific.....How did the water get into the engine? What do you mean by "sparks and cylinder"? exhaust has blown out of the manifold or was loose?
Can you scan and post the report?Dave0 -
Probably best to see the list of faults. Could you type it in here? Wouldn't be the first time a main dealer conjured up a scary list of expensive faults to drum up work.
If the exhaust has failed at the manifold the thing will sound like a tank.
Avoid Kwik Fit like the plague - do a quick search on this forum and you'll see why.
If it needs an exhaust, any local garage or tyre & exhaust place can fit one. But definitely get a few prices and opinions before committing to work being done.
If the car sounds and drives normally, it's unlikely to have a major exhaust problem.0 -
Thanks guys, Sparks and cylinder now fixed. The other faults they listed were minor ie tyres, wiper blades etc..easy fixes. Biggest concern is exhaust which they list as "need full exhaust, blown out at manifold" not sure what this means..many thanks..0

Well don't go near the Ford dealer for wiper blades, tyres etc. Motor factor (check yellow pages for local ones) for wipers, shop around tyre places for tyres. https://www.blackcircles.com is good for budget pricing before you ring round.
As I said, if it's blowing out at the manifold, it should sound very noisy indeed. Have you noticed the car noisy, especially when revving the engine? If the whole exhaust is gone, it will be really noisy. I can't believe you wouldn't have noticed this.
There's every chance the exhaust only needs localised repairs, either by fitting a short section, or if you're fortunate, welding on a patch. Take the car to a trusted mechanic, get it up on a lift and see what they recommend.0 -
Thaks guys, will fit the blades myself and shop around for tyres etc... The exhaust is making no obvious noise, it does however blow out very infrequently. I think the damage to the exhaust was caused when I was losing power due to spark/cylinder problem and had to really rev it going up a steep hill. Will shop around and try to get a welding job done on it, if it even needs it..Many thanks again..0
