I definately wouldn't leave my card behind the bar for "security" anywhere. I'd rather leave and find somewhere else than risk my card being cloned without a doubt.

(Another thing, how many bars/restaurants still use signatures now? I was asked to sign for a purchase in Wetherspoons today and thought that was a bit strange since most places use Chip & PIN)
  • I certainly won't let someone take my card out of my sight. Some restaurants (Harvester, among others) bring a wireless card terminal to your table so you can pay. I just hope their wireless system is secure!

I don't like letting my card out of my sight, but i have to admit that sometimes i do.

I'm not gonna argue and if chip and pin is good or bad, but with those machines there is now no reason to let your card out of your sight or even let someone else touch your card.

Your card is like the key to your bank.
Would you give a stranger the key to your house?
So why give em the key to your bank.

This post is making me think.
Maybe no one should be handeling my card but me.
It's sad really, but thats the world we like in.

I've got an account that only has a cashpoint card that I use for my 'pin money'. When I go to the pub with mates in The City, I put that behind the bar. We divvy up the bill at the end and pay cash or sometimes I'll pay it on another card. It's the lowest risk way I can think of because I can't see how anyone could get the PIN and the card has nil value without it.

Surprises me that they actually take that behind the bar, thought it'd need to be a credit/debit card

TK Maxx were infiltrated by rogue software operating on their computer systems.

How that equates to wireless card terminals being insecure I'm not sure - surely if the systems had rogue software on them, wired terminals would be just as bad

I think martinaj meant that wireless could be insecure by intercepting the signal as it is sent to the till.
  • In a Restaurant for a few years now I have been paying the Bill with cash!

Because I feel that if im out with my OH for a meal and enjoyment, I dont want to spoil the evening chasing after my card!
