Manchester: secondhand bookshop that buys books?

I've got a load of books to get rid of quickly. Nothing special, mostly the usual paperback novels. I've had some listed on GreenMetropolis and Amazon but no takers for these, so it's time to ditch 'em. I don't have time (or a car!) to take them to a car boot.

I might have to just give them to charity shops and Freecycle, but are there any second hand bookshops in either Manchester city centre or in south Manchester (like Sale/Didsbury area) that'll give me a bit of cash?

thanks!

  • Does no one have any ideas?! : )
  • Can't remeber the road name but right in centre of Manchester there is a second hand book stall/market. He used to buy books off jo public. I can picture his stall just can't think exactly where it is! He is near where the barra boys used to be.
  • I used to live in Manchester a few years back and remember there being a second hand book shop on Grosvenor Street, which is off Oxford Road. They used to buy and sell 2nd hand books.
  • The place I am talking about is not a shop as such. Its a fixed market stall/hut.

It is in the northern quarter, opposite the fruit and veg stalls.

You could swap them for books that you would prefer on www.readitswapit.co.uk although that's not going to be a particularly quick method of getting rid of them.

There's a pretty big secondhand bookshop on Shudehill (the road that runs between the Arndale and the Printworks) called Paramount. It's next to the Metrolink stop. There's also a few other smaller bookshops along that road.
  • I phoned a few of the Shudehill bookshops but most (apart from Paramount) said they were swamped at the moment and weren't taking any. I took some to Paramount and the friendly bloke said they weren't really of interest to him, they only wanted specialist stuff, so I ended up dumping the lot in my local Oxfam book recycling bin! At least that was quick!

    Thanks for all the suggestions!
  • Hi Guys,

Im also in need of a second hand book shop that sell uni ref books.

I spent a small fortune on buying ref books from each module while I was studying (the main reason was they were always booked out in the lib!)

These books cost me around £60-£100 each. Ive tried selling them on ebay & sold a few under £10. No takers on Amazon.

My books are all on Vet Nursing, Animal behaviour, Ecology, Animal science, Zololgy, Animal Welfare, Law and Ethics.

I would really need a specialist shop in Manchester. I have tried Blackwell & Hammicks but no takers.

PLEASE HELP. Need to pay off my student overdraft with these books :-)
