Time to pay direction

I was granted a time to pay direction around 4 years ago and have been making a steady monthly payment to chip away at the balance.

I'm getting nearer to clearing the initial balance but a recent statement from the banks lawyers shows £2000 in legal fees to be paid. Should I have to pay this as well? The time to pay direction issued by the sheriff court lists the original balance, interest @ 8% and expenses. Just seems a bit steep to me.

Can anyone advise if I have to pay this?

It depends on the terms of the original sheriff's order. If it included costs against you, then you may have to, but I would check the order. You can also request a reassessment of the legal fees based on hardship - that does seem a high sum for filing a court order.

Start with the original order - the court will have a copy on file if you don't have it.
