Hey ACG,
I'm truly, really hurt
.. you should know me by now, sarcasm or being nasty just isn't my style, or float my boat ... as its always much easier to be nice and fluffy !! (although yes, there are a few who seem to be experts ...
!)
BigA. has it spot on (thanks pal !), I genuinely thought it was a really helpful post for the OP (including links for them, etc) ..... and thats why I wanted to say so ... :T !
In fact I had a go at it myself ... and no I didn't peek at the answers ..

It shows I'm rather out of date with some of the more particular regulatory aspects - I only managed 56, but not bad as I took FPC1 in '97 and have essentially been out of advising for 8 years.
I only got one of the last section with the multi answers right.IANAL etc.0 -

That's my excuse. It's a good one for a Saturday night.
Thanks a bunch ACG!

:jDoes anyone have any ideas why IFA courses en't now being offered in universities as degree courses. I know this has not historically been the case, but you seem to be able to a degree in anything now, and looking at professions such as nursing then this now appears to be a minimum requirement, just curious really.0

Bradford Uni currently offer a Financial Planning Degree - which is aimed at new entrants to the industry (with Mancester Uni also planning to offer a degree course in 2013/2014).
IMHO the CII Advanced Diploma, due to its modules and complexity, is degree standard, and should be sufficient to demonstrate that the individual has both an extensive and detailed knowledge and understanding of the various mediums. With the holder being able to hold Chartered Status - which really is elite status (subject to min 5 yrs industry experience, which can be pre attainedment of Advanced status).
Seeing as there is currently widespread panic due to advisers having to be Diploma Qualified by Jan 2013 under RDR, there are a lot of advisers planninger their exits at this time. (due to not holding/being able to attain the necessary qualifications for Dip), so there will certainly be room for new entrants, whether they take the degree route as above, or the standard industry examinations (although the degree course also provides work experience placements with brokerages, as part of the syllabus).
Hope this helps
