Credit File Missing Information

Hi All,

As some may have seen from my other thread...i purchased my credit file today through Equifax.

Whilst I can see alot of my information on there, I have noticed that a fair bit is missing. Numerous credit cards, two payday loans, one of my largest loans i ever had which is now settled.

Equifax also breaks down your agreements over the months you had them and indicates defaults. Some of my creditors details only show open date and settled date, no defaults / missed payments even though i know there definately were some.

Will all credit file companies have the same information about you? Is this the only information available concerning me or will, for example, a mortgage company be able to see the whole picture?

The 3 credit reference agencies generally have sightly different information. That is because a lot of lenders only search one or 2 of the 3, and a lot only report account behaviour to one or 2.
Experian is the largest of the 3, followed by equifax. You might find a lot of the missing accounts on there.

Not all payday loans report to any of the credit reference agencies, although some do.

And any accounts that are more than 6years since you settled them, or 6years since you defaulted would no longer show.

A potential mortgage lender will see the data from whichever credit ref agency they use - and they will sometimes check more than 1 for a mortgage.
They will see the same as you can see, except they won't see the names of the lenders and won't see any unrecorded/quotation searches.
The only way they may know more information would be if they had internal information on you (eg if you apply for a mortgage where you have had an account in the past or still do now).
The other thing they would see, but you cannot, would be if you were financially associated with anyone else on your files- in which case they would also see that person's reports.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give

  • Thankyou very much for your help. Looks like i should check with Experian too and see if i can tie up the lose ends.
