i have just recieved a letter in the post saying i have an unpaid debt, when i rang the firm it was from 14 years ago, is there a time limit that debt gets written off, i have had no contact with them as i was with a diff partner and in another part of the country, so what should i do, any advive would be helpfull.

Best advice is not to ring debt collectors, but to do everything in writing.
You might well not be required to pay - can you provide more info
What was the debt originally (eg credit card/loan/mortgage arrears/council tax etc)?
Which country in the UK were you in when you took out the debt (Scotland has different rules to the rest of the UK).
Was this a debt in just your name - or was it a joint debt with the partner you mention.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
