    d. disposing of the house asset probably isn't feasible; could you get a mortgage based on your income alone sufficient to remortgage in your name; the secured loan would probably need to be paid off as the beneficial ownership of the house is changing..can you afford to pay this off.

ps we have no secured loan, although we do have an unsecured loan in both names.

We were checking out the mortgage & it does say you can transfer the mortgage or remove a name from the mortgage for a £160 fee - as long as the agreement is kept.

Yep - but you can only work so many hours.

She's doing nights again soon, which will also bump up the wage a bit.

lol - you should see mine - hers is well cheap!! Our postcode is the same as a neighboring community, where car crime is rife (Liverpool). On the insurance website that rates postcodes in terms of insurance premiums (A to F), ours is E* :(

It's in a lovely area as well !!

The figure quoted above for food is generalised. It covers all household stuff too such as cleaning things, razors, personal care, alcohol etc.

Your generalised figure is still high.
Pop over to the OS board for some help.

£50-£60 per week for everything is too high??

We don't even go mad, we shop at Aldi !!! That figure is much less were both looking after ourselves now, it used to be easily double that......

I'll get the OH on the forums soon enough, she's just too stressed today to talk about it.

No need to get irate really, that wont solve anything, I just want to help her get sorted as I'd hate to be in such a position.

Thanks for the replies so far......
  • Dog food - is very high - I feed my three on Iams, £30 for 15K and it last us about 2 months, and they are collies, so high energy!! Sometimes it is worth investing in a high quality dog food, cos you feed a lot less.

We save our pet insurance money in a high savings account and then it is ours if we have no claim, you can get third part insurance on its own,

We feed our staff on 2 tins of butchers dog food a day. Can't really complain as she's in the best of health and really fit. Have been approached by many a people/breeders wanting to breed their dogs with her as her pedigree & shape are superb.

I know ideally that you should only feed them dry food, but she just wont eat it (we have tried !!). Tinned food & a mixer are the only things !

    Thanks for the advice though

As for the Pet insurance, I'm so glad we have it, it has saved us a fortune already !

When she was a pup she damaged her knee, a few months ago she had an allergic reaction, and she's been a few times for the odd checkup.

    All better now though :)
  • I think the way forward, is to really analyse your finances, and see where you can find savings, I still think a £1 a day to feed a dog when it cost me 50p for three is excessive. Also tin dog food is 90% water!! Water down a good quality dog food, at the end of the day, a dog wont go hungry even if takes a while.

Between you both you are £50,000 in debt + your mortgage which is a far old whack something is going to have to give. It is really really hard, but facing up to debt is just the start. Sorry to be an old bag, I am only trying to help.
