extra large gift bag

Can anyone help please? I've bought dd a quite expensive handbag, and it won't fit in to the largest gift bag I can find. The width is ok (33cm), but the gift bag height is 45cm, and I need around 60cm. I don't want to risk ruining the bag by forcing the stiff handles down.I'm not at all crafty, but wonder if anyone can suggest an alternative, that won't cost the earth, or a way of adapting the gift bag I have? Thanks. x

Could you get some chiffon or other floaty fabric and wrap loosely in that? Tie with a wide ribbon.

Or how about going rustic - use plain brown paper and tie with string.

Depending on the recipient, you could put the gift bag inside the handbag, with a note saying that it should be the other way round but it just wouldn't fit and you didn't want to waste the gift bag - but only go for this option if their sense of humour is likely to kick in.

You could also look for a wide gift bag and put the handbag in on its side.

Could you lay it flat in a shoebox style gift box, or if it's standing up perhaps a bigger box then wrapped? Would keep her guessing what it is too!

Make your own like this one, looks easy enough... Could use posh wrapping paper which would be thicker than normal stuff? http://www.scrapjazz.com/topics/Miscellaneous/Gifts_and_Craft_Projects/585.php Just need to find a box big enough to use as a template, and use a hole punch to make the ribbon holes.

    Have a look here :)
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • cellophane - you could get clear with nice tissue paper underneath or patterned.
Or material would be my other idea.
Or a nice bag for life from someone nice? (maybe a clothes shop or something rather than a supermarket)

Thanks everyone. I ended up using the bag I had, but replacing the handles with long pieces of silver ribbon, the double sided sticky to attach pleated silver tissue to the top to make it taller! x
