  • hi i understand about getting rid of sky but we dont do anything else, we dont go out and i do think we need some form of relaxation or break from work etc etc. will have a look at the oldstyle board thx
  • Hi jerseygirl :hello:

Well done on starting to get all of this sorted out :T

I may take criticism for this but I am with you on the Sky. We moved our budget around so we could keep our Virgin Media package because we do use it. We don't have extras like movies and sport but we do have the XL TV package so we can get the full catch up and on demand services. It was pretty much our only luxury and we decided to keep it :)

    Hi,

You can get a freewview recordable box from ebay for about £40
that will be a one off payment where you can record to watch later. Then get a netflicks subscription at £6 a month and you will have plenty to watch on demand
Love reading the oldstyle board...always something to learn!
  • This is probably me really showing my non-techie ignorance here but isn't Netflix watch online? I thought it was streamed via your computer or something? :o

Everyone has their own 'luxuries' that they'll wanna keep. Ours is our coffees out :D

OP - just want to pick on a couple wee things...

Food: have you cut it down as much as possible? Do you meal plan? Packed lunches for during work/school? Shop around for cheaper alternatives or from the reduced section?

£50 a month on birthday presents? Or are you saving each month for Christmas?

£20 a month on haircuts? Can this be 'cut' (pardon the pun!!) at all? My partner bought a set of discounted clippers from TK Maxx. Never cut a guys hair in my life but I'm a dab hand at it now! Only ever cost him £5 a time but it's still saving in the long run :)

£40 other travel? Is this on top of your own car expenses?

Yes but you can also watch through the xbox and you have an HDMI cable which you plug into the laptop and it will stream through the HDMI channel onto the TV

Sounds complicated it really isn't :)

  • Hmmm we haven't got an Xbox or a HD TV and I have no idea what we would do with a HDMI cable without one. It's starting to sound like we need a bit more than a £40 Freeview box and a £5.99 subscription to Netflix. So I think we will just stick with the Virgin Media package. Thanks anyway :)

I think it is streamed via the internet and would increase our download traffic, dont know if thats the right phrasing lol but basically we would probably go over our monthly limit, but will look into it.
