Acer Laptop - RMA number - Comet

I have spent the last 20 minutes wondering which forum to put this post in, please move it if it is in the wrong place, I just would like a question answered if possible.

Does anyone know what the policy is for taking a laptop back to comet which is broken and has a RMA number (Return Materials Authorization number) from Acer because they cannot fix it (been written off)?

Comet do not have a laptop at the moment that is on par with the one that is broken.. well they do but it costs more.

Can I have a refund if they do not have a laptop of comparable quality and specs or do I HAVE to accept an exchange?
I don't post much, but when I do it's all good!!

    How old is it?

I am guessing they will offer you a replacement to the value of what you originally paid (you pay the difference for the more expensive model) or a refund in gift vouchers

Thanks for coming back to me Shaun.

Actually it is 14 months old, but it was a replacement itself when my original Acer broke at about age 2 months old. Heh doesn't say much for Acer does it.. then this one had a problem with battery power after 2 weeks of the replacement which Acer dealt with.

No problems for all the rest of the time until end of Jan this year.. replacement was made in Nov 05.

They then told me that they would extend the guarantee to cover this recent problem, hence the RMA number because they couldn't fix it.

OK so does that mean 'fight time' at Comet?

I do have the magic RMA number though :D

To be honest, I just want a computer that works, I am using a borrowed one at the moment, but I do need certain specs.. the ones that Comet have for the same price I paid are no where near what I need, thats why I asked if a refund would be possible so I could go elsewhere..

  • I believe your position is you can ask for a replacement of the same item, if they no longer sell it you're entitled to a refund since they cannot provide the item you chose to purchase.

Then take your money and buy a better deal online.
