Advice on default payment - debt collection

I need some advice on what to do with regards to a defaulted payday loan.
Back in May 2009 i sought advice from CAB as I had a loan, credit card and a couple of payday loans that i couldn't afford. In the end they all defaulted and I made monthly payments, and having been doing so without issue since.
Recently though, I received a letter to my most recent address from motormile finance saying they'd been passed an account from Quik Quid (which has been paid back, however it was from an also disputed bank account which has since been closed)
I rang motormile and had a lengthy, stressful conversation telling them I disputed this debt and they needed to go back and invetigate which they said they would, but they then sent me another letter saying as I didn't respond to their last letter, the account was now being passed to a home visit department.
The problem is, I'm in the process of looking for rented accomodation and wanted to put in an application today, until I checked my credit score and seen it's now dropped 400 points as motormile have posted this default.
I know I don't owe this money, but what is the quickest way for me to resolve this so that i can apply for the flat I want?
Would it be to pay motormile and then dispute it (and if so, would my credit score go back to what it was?) or dispute it with Equifax? they've told me they need 28 days to contact collections agencies, but I don't really have this much time, I need it sorted in the next week or two.
Any help would be much appreciated as this is a massive blow right at a time when I don't need it!
Thanks,
Natalie

You need to send the people chasing you a written complaint. You did default so as long as the date is correct it will stay for 6 years from default date.
At the same time, I would ask QQ and CAB for written confirmation that the debt was paid.
They should not be chasing ou for payment if settled.
Ignore the credit score as its worthless.
There is a housing forum so ask on there about the default buti think it will be ok as credit searches for renting only show up CCJs:beer:0 -
That's lovely, thank you for your help x0
