I'm sure this has been discussed before but there's no current thread on it so here goes.
I applied for a job that I was qualified to do and was perfect for my career progession so naturally I did the background research, looked up google map for the quickest route there etc. I made sure I left in good time so I arrived nice and (not too) early, about 20 mins.
I was informed by the receptionist that they were behind because the candidate that they were currently interviewing got lost on the way there. When they finally got round to interviewing me it was 30mins later than my allocated slot. I was mildly steaming on my way up but by the time I got there I was fine
So I answered the usual questions and all seemed to be going well until they asked me if I had any questions. Turned out that I did and I'd written them down. I asked the first quesion and they answered but they (esp the man) looked impatient. And then I asked the third question and one of the women says, and this is verbatim,"Ok that;s enough. We really are behind and we've still got other candidates to see. You'll have to wrap this up, I'm afraid." So I got up and left feeling crestfallen and angry. This was a Friday so I could have spent the weekend angs-ting over what I should have said and what I shouldn't have said, but by the time I got home I knew I didn't want to work for them. I had a very good weekend.
Employers forget that when we're in the hot seat we're not just looking for a job but we're also looking for the right environment. Turns out an old colleague of mine got the job and as I suspected, they treat him like a doormat.

I would have said 'I know you are behind, I was waiting 30 mins'! :O0

You know I thought of it at the time but I so upset and felt stupid for asking questions that I scurried out. If we ever cross paths again, and we may because the third sector is a very incestuous one., I'll remind them of it. Awful unprofessional people.0

On my way to an interview on a boiling hot day I arrived about 40 mins early, thought I'll go have a nice cold drink somewhere, cool down a bit and arrive nice and refreshed.
Had my drink, calmed myself down a bit, went into the loos to check my makeup and hair. Dumped my bag in the sink to get my powder and lippy out, heard running water but didn't think anything of it, then noticed the tap was one of those sensor ones. My bag had about 4 pints of water in it!
Tipped it out tried to dry it under the hand dryer, but time was getting on so had to just leave it, got to the interview by the skin of my teeth, sat down to wait. Lady comes out I stand up to shake her hand, pick up my bag swing it around my shoulder and proceed to soak her
and leave a huge puddle on the floor.
I explained what had happened but funnily enough, didn't get the job!

A bit similar to a visit to an agency. I was asked to fill in the online registration form so sat at the pc with my glass of water. Then suddenly the girl said 'oh Louise says you do not have to fill that in as we have all the details' so I get up and walk back to reception.
They had one of those really low down leather sofas and I sat down putting my bag next to me only then to forget I had the water in my hand and tipped it into my lap!! I could have died and wanted to leave but I know looked like my skirt had just come out of the washing machine!
I asked for the ladies and had to spend 10 mins under the hand drier trying to dry my skirt! I really wanted to just leave but remembered they had my passport. As I come out of the ladies the consultant was waiting for me and I had to tell her what had happened but she didn't even react.0 -
As an employer, I was interviewing candidates through a back to work scheme. The girl that ran this department was in the room with me. The third out of four interviewees came in out of breath about 5 minutes late. In the pre amble I enquired as to his lateness and got informed he'd just been arrested, but as he explained to the officers he had been out of work for 15 months and had an interview, they kindly agreed to take him to the office, de arrest him then wait outside to re arrest him on completion!!
As an aside, I asked if he'd had an opportunity to have a look at our website and if so, what did he think of our products. His reply, verbatim 'yeah, some of the stuffs alright' !!
He didnt get the job.0 -

I replied to an ad on Gumtree for a "sales and marketing position" (I know, I know, I was green), and got an interview.
When I got there, I found that there were about 15 other people in the waiting room, and there were three interviewers, each "interviewing" two or more people at a time. As far as I could tell, this was all they were doing, so the staff turnover must have been incredible.
Anyway, it turned out that the job involved going door-to-door for Npower, trying to get people to switch energy suppliers. On a commission-only basis. When I asked what happened if we didn't manage to sign anyone up all week, I was told that I wouldn't be paid anything...! Funnily enough, I declined to work for what would inevitably be less than minimum wage.0 -
I once broke a heel on the way to an interview. I called into a shoe repairers but they said 'no chance', so as I was early went into the nearest shoe shop and bought the comfiest nice looking heels I could find. Twenty minutes walk later my feet were in agony... Must have shown on my face in the interview - I didn't get the job, and had to walk another hour to get home! Never wore the damn things again!0

I used to work for an oil company.
After redundancy I signed up to a agency, and was asked to go for an accounting role with another oil company. I said 'I am not an accountant I know nothing about accounts'
Agency rechecked (they were actually very good) but the small oil major still wanted me 'perhaps for another role' due to my oil knowledge.
At the interview the small oil major confirmed they understood my lack of accounting skills, and that they were considering me for other roles- then proceeded to give me an on line accounting test!!
I just sat there completely bewildered and cold do nothing but fume. Waste of time, money and effort .
However I had another the next day which was fab and I have been working for them ever since.0
